A Metta Meditation Offering …
A practice of sending lovingkindness in different stages, to different focal points. Start by sending it to yourself, then to someone you love or care deeply for, then a neutral person - someone you see but don’t know personally, then sending lovingkindness to someone difficult or challenging, and finally, sending it out to all beings.
It can be practiced anywhere and at anytime, and can be done in your own way! Whatever feels the most comfortable and authentic to you.
Find a comfortable place to sit with a tall spine, and settle into your breath and into your supports. When you feel ready to begin your metta meditation practice, think of starting a silent conversation with yourself. From your mind’s eye, envision yourself talking directly to you and silently repeat these words :
May I be happy and healthy.
May I feel peace and freedom.
May I be free from suffering, and from the causes of suffering.
May I be filled with lovingkindness.
Repeat as many times as feels good.
Then move to the next phase - until your practice feels complete. It never has to look a certain way, and you can let it go at any time. Let it be your own. When you move into them next phases, silently repeat :
May they be happy and healthy.
May they feel peace and freedom.
May they be free from suffering, and from the causes of suffering.
May they be filled with lovingkindness.
When you get to the last phase, sending to all beings, it can be repeated in this way :
May we all be happy and healthy.
May we all feel peace and freedom.
May we all be free from suffering, and from the causes of suffering.
May we all be filled with lovingkindness.
Fill up your cups, Wild Root Fam, and know the we are sending out so much love to you always. 🫶
