Are you ready to cheer on the Birds tonight?

Get pumped up with us by looking back at an incredible Training Camp at the NovaCare Complex. This year, we invited winners of our Campstakes promotion and their guests to enjoy an exclusive experience where they met some notable Philly sports icons, snagged some swag and got pumped to see the Eagles play again. Thank you to everyone who made it such a fun event.

We've been the official physical therapy partner of the Philadelphia Eagles for 25 years — from the heat of training camp to the roar of the regular season — we'll always bleed green!

When Tom Byrne fell on his boat, he suffered a massive rotator cuff injury to his left shoulder. Two muscles were completely torn from the bone, and a third had a 50% tear. After surgery and eight weeks in an abduction sling, he arrived at our NovaCare Rehabilitation in partnership with AtlantiCare center in Rio Grande, New Jersey, with no strength, no mobility and a long recovery ahead.

Under the guidance of Physical Therapist Maegan Sharkey, Tom started from scratch with gentle band work, basic movement and then graduated to one- and two-pound weights that felt like a major victory. With each visit, he was introduced to more challenging exercises, helping him steadily rebuild his strength and range of motion.

"My physical therapist Maegan told me, ‘Recovery isn’t linear,’” Tom said. “This is so true and helps you keep moving forward. You will have good days and bad days, plateaus and valleys. It’s a long, slow process, but eventually you’ll get there. I would refer NovaCare in Rio Grande to anyone.”

Now, with just one month of therapy left, Tom says he’s back to full use of his arm. He can fish, dive and spearfish without discomfort and enjoy the lifestyle he loves.

For Patient Service Specialist Month, we wanted to do something special for the team that keeps our centers running smoothly. As the official physical therapy partner of the Philadelphia Eagles, a few of our incredible patient service specialists got to cheer from the stands during recent preseason games.

Their hard work, warmth and dedication keep our centers running strong every day, and we're grateful for all they do to help every patient who walks through our doors.

Personality-wise, Tracie Garacochea says she's no "grandma' who sits around and knits. No, Tracie, a 65-year-old with multiple sclerosis, performs impressive stunts at the skatepark in her wheelchair. All this, despite taking what she calls "a little tumble."

Tracie was attempting an otherwise routine run at the skatepark, when she lost control and face-planted onto the concrete. She broke her left elbow and wrist. She also had a separated shoulder and some "gnarly" scrapes on her face, as a friend described it.

Tracie began physical therapy with the spirit and determination of an elite athlete. She worked on progressive strengthening, stretching exercises to improve range of motion and received manual therapy to break up scar tissue. Only two months after the accident, she was back at the skatepark performing the trick that originally injured her. In fact, she says she feels even stronger than before.

Philadelphia Eagles superfan Charles “Tat Man” Solomon, known for his more than 100 tattoos honoring the Birds, faced his toughest challenge in September 2024. He was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma, a rare and aggressive form of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Shortly after starting chemotherapy, Charles suffered septic shock, was placed in a coma and on a ventilator for more than a month. He awoke to learn what had happened and that he had also endured a series of strokes while in his coma.

After a long hospital stay, he began rehabilitation and eventually returned home. But when his recovery progress plateaued, Charles feared he was out of options. That's when he turned to outpatient physical therapy at NovaCare Rehabilitation in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, with ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation specialist David Eilbacher.

“A few months ago, I felt hopeless,” Charles said. “With Dave’s help, I’ve already noticed improvements in my strength, endurance and overall function. I highly recommend seeing Dave and the whole NovaCare team in Lansdowne.”

From cheering in the stands to working hard in therapy, Charles is proving that with determination and the right team behind you, there’s always a reason to believe.

Once an active retiree who loved to walk, shop and spend time with her friends, Eleanor O'Haren increasingly found herself clinging to others for support. Her confidence faded as her gait became unsteady, and simple outings became sources of worry, not just for her but for those around her.
Eleanor decided to seek help at our Springfield, Pennsylvania, center.

“When I first arrived, my balance was off and I was swaying more often than not,” Eleanor shared. “It was difficult, and my confidence was affected. I never expected to land where I did, literally and figuratively.”

But everything began to shift with the help of her physical therapists, Kelly Spence and Michael Hoh.
“Kelly used creative exercises to increase my balance and Mike was always there to lend a hand when she needed a second person. Together, they made therapy feel less like work and more like progress. We even laughed as I got stronger,” Eleanor said. “I’ve climbed far beyond where I ever imagined.”

Today, Eleanor walks with confidence, and even more importantly, she leaves every visit feeling not only physically stronger but emotionally uplifted.

“I was blessed to have Kelly and Mike in my life,” she said. “They created an atmosphere of joy, a place that made my heart smile.”
