ADHD overthinking isn’t just “thinking too much.”

It’s looping.

It’s your brain opening 37 tabs, losing the mouse, and refusing to shut down.

Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD) isn’t just a trending term—it’s a real, often misunderstood part of ADHD.

💥 Even the anticipation of rejection can feel overwhelming.
💔 Actual rejection? It doesn’t just sting—it burns.

RSD isn’t about being “too sensitive”—it’s a neurological response that deeply affects emotional regulation, self-esteem, and relationships.

😣 It fuels avoidance.
🎭 It drives perfectionism.

🎭Many adults with ADHD find ways of hiding their ADHD traits. This is called masking.

👩‍🏫Think of masking as a defense mechanism. For example, some ADHD individuals are highly organized and perfectionistic as a way to cover up the potential to make errors. While some folks with undiagnosed ADHD aren’t calling their focusing issues “ADHD,” many do feel a lot of shame and guilt around their procrastination, organization issues, etc., so they also find a way to conceal symptoms from others.

😬 Chronic stress causes the brain to enter a fear based survival mode…impacting focus, self-regulation, and the ability to block out unwanted distractions.

👉People with ADHD also struggle with emotional regulation. ADHD lives within the brain’s frontal lobe, where the executive functions are housed.

👉Emotional regulation is part of the executive functions (along with planning, working memory, organization, etc.). When ADHD people are under stress, they tend to feel bigger feelings. The more Josie began to worry, the less she was able to “regulate” or control those worries. When it came time to focus, all of that emotion clouded up her mind.

🚨New blog alert! 🚨

🎢Does life with ADHD feel like an emotional roller coaster?

👉You’re not alone.

‼️According to a recent study, almost all people with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) struggle with emotional-regulation issues.

👉While some people with ADHD have big emotions that are noticeable (because they “wear their hearts on their sleeves”), others suffer in silence over the intense stress they’re holding inside.

👉As a result, some get told they are “too sensitive” one day and are “totally closed off” the next. Whatever the case, for many adults with ADHD and emotional-regulation issues, life can feel like a roller coaster of overwhelm, leaving them feeling misunderstood.
