Yes, most people will need more than one prosthesis over the course of their journey. After surgery, your limb continues to heal and change in size, especially during the first year. Because of this, you’ll usually start with a temporary or training prosthesis that allows you to begin walking and regaining independence while your limb is still stabilizing. Once the swelling decreases, and your limb shape becomes more consistent, we will fit you with a more permanent prosthesis designed for long-term use.

Even after that, it is normal to need adjustments or new sockets overtime. Factors like activity level, weight changes, or natural body changes can affect how you’re prosthesis fits and feels. Our team will be with you every step of the way to monitor these changes, make modifications, and ensure you always have a prosthesis that supports your comfort, mobility and goals.

Keep Moving — Your Progress Matters

Staying active after limb loss doesn’t have to be intense to be effective. A little movement each day can go a long way in building strength, improving balance, boosting circulation, and helping you feel more confident with your prosthesis.

3 Tips to Stay Active:
1. Begin with light walks or easy stretches
2. Set small, realistic goals
3. Stay consistent — even 5–10 minutes a day makes a difference

This is your journey, and every step counts. Go at your own pace, and don’t forget to celebrate the wins — no matter how small.

Need help getting started? We’re here to help you build an activity plan that works for you. 💪

Fit Matters — Even Small Changes Make a Difference

Your prosthesis is custom-designed to match your limb exactly as it is. That means even small weight changes can affect the way it fits:

✅ Gaining weight may make your socket feel too tight or difficult to put on.
✅ Losing weight can cause looseness, rubbing, or instability.
✅ Prosthetic socks help fine-tune the fit — you may need to add or remove layers depending on how your socket feels.

If your prosthesis isn’t fitting quite right, don’t tough it out — give us a call. We can make adjustments or create a new socket to keep you comfortable and moving safely.

Regular check-ins help protect your skin, improve mobility, and keep you feeling your best.

Wellness Wednesday: Residual Limb Hygiene

Clean Skin = A Comfy Fit

Keeping your skin healthy is one of the best ways to stay comfortable in your prosthesis. Daily limb care helps prevent irritation, odor, and skin issues — so your socket feels better, longer.

✅ Gently wash with warm water and antibacterial soap
✅ Dry completely, especially around skin folds
✅ Check daily for redness, blisters, or signs of irritation

Small habits make a big difference. If something doesn’t look or feel right, don’t wait — give us a call. We’re here to help!

Smarter Support, Smoother Steps | Microprocessor Knees

Your prosthesis should move with you — not hold you back. Microprocessor knees like the C-Leg or Ottobock X3 automatically adjust to your speed, movement, and terrain in real time to help every step feel more natural.

✅ Dynamic, real-time motion control
✅ Better stability on stairs, slopes, and uneven ground
✅ Boosted confidence with every step you take

At Next Step Prosthetics, we’re here to help you stay active, independent, and doing what you love. Let’s talk about whether a microprocessor knee is the right fit for your lifestyle.

Motivational Monday!!

Everyone’s journey looks different — and that’s okay. Some steps are big, some are small, and some take longer than others. What matters most is that you’re moving forward at your own pace.

Celebrate the little wins. Be patient with yourself. Progress isn’t a race — it’s a reflection of your strength, determination, and heart.

Wearing a prosthesis for the first time is a big step — and it’s normal for it to feel a little unfamiliar at first, kind of like breaking in a new pair of shoes.

You might feel:
✨ Gentle pressure (not pain) as your limb supports your body weight
✨ Some sensitivity in the beginning
✨ A bit of heaviness — but that fades as you get stronger

The good news? With time, support, and practice, your prosthesis can start to feel like a natural part of you. Many people find themselves walking, working, parenting, hiking, dancing — and doing the things they love again.

It’s all part of the journey — and you’re not alone. We’re here to walk with you every step of the way.

Wellness Wednesday

Your socket is the foundation of your prosthesis. If it’s too loose or tight, it can affect your comfort, mobility, and even skin health.

✅ Watch for pressure spots or lasting redness
✅ Let us know if your fit feels different—especially with weight changes
✅ Don’t ignore discomfort—it’s fixable!

Your prosthesis should work with you, not against you. If it doesn’t feel right, let’s get it adjusted.
