Dr. Pawlus is friendly, down-to-earth, and truly takes the time to get to know every patient personally. He is passionate about dentistry and always knew he wanted to be a dentist, even as a child. When it was time to choose a career, John G. Pawlus had a clear path ahead of him. He earned his Bachelor of Science in biology from Purdue University and graduated from Indiana University's School of Dentistry with a degree in general dentistry.
During his residency at Oakland Naval Hospital in Oakland, California, Dr. Pawlus received intensive training in dental specialties including oral surgery, orthodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, and periodontics. Mentored by some of the world's top ceramicists, Dr. Pawlus also learned to construct veneers, crowns and bridges, and mastered the precise art of porcelain work.
Dr. Pawlus practiced general dentistry for three years in Okinawa, Japan, with the United States Navy. There, he also worked in orthodontics and continued to pursue his interest in hands-on laboratory techniques. While serving in the Navy, Dr. Pawlus was the first to receive the Thomas P. Carroll "Top Doc" Award for Clinical Excellence, earning distinction among his Pacific Rim peers for extraordinary clinical skills.
Dr. Pawlus is a nationally recognized expert and often lectures on the latest advancements in dentistry. He is also an accomplished lab technician, rare among clinical practitioners. Outside of the office, Dr. Pawlus loves to read, study, exercise, care for his animals, and spend quality time with his family.
