What is a Death Doula?
A non medical person who comes alongside an individual and their loved ones before, during and after death. They provide emotional and spiritual support. An End of Life Doula is trained to help individuals process terminal diagnosis or just prepare for the future. This may include such things as assisting with a legacy project, thinking through advanced directives, vigil, memorial and funeral planning, navigating hospice and palliative care as well as education on death and dying and being present with someone during the active dying process. A Death Doula also is there for short term grief support after a death. They can compliment Hospice but a person does not need to be on Hospice to have an End of Life Doula.
