Is your church ready to support members living with dementia and their care partners? Stocking a dementia-friendly closet is a simple yet powerful way to offer love, dignity, and practical help.

Here are some suggested items to include:

🧩 Memory Aids – Photo albums, memory boxes
👐 Sensory Tools – Fidget blankets, textured fabrics, stress balls
📦 Organizational Supplies – Labels for closets/drawers
🧸 Comfort Items – Soft blankets, stuffed animals
🎨 Activity Kits – Puzzles, coloring books, crayons
🎵 Media – Calming music/videos
🧻 Care Essentials –
• Wipes & gloves
• Hand sanitizer
• Depends/disposable underwear
• Chuck pads (disposable) & reusable bed pads
• Mepilex sacral dressings
• Butt paste for diaper rash
• Non-slip socks & easy grip utensils

Adding a few of these items can make your church space more welcoming, supportive, and inclusive for those impacted by dementia.

Today marks the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)!

The goal of the ADA is to ensure equal rights and opportunities for people with disabilities. It requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities. It also mandates accessibility standards for public spaces.

We celebrate the ADA every July, and we recognize the ongoing efforts to ensure equal opportunities for people with disabilities!
