Data doesn't lie! My Whoop stats from this week reveal a direct correlation between sleep and recovery. Swipe to see the graphs - the shapes are SO similar! The lesson learned? If I want to perform at my best and heal faster (hello, foot strain!), I've got to prioritize sleep. And maybe cut back on the Friday night drinkies šŸ« šŸ˜“šŸ’¤

It can be done very well and balancing the strength/metabolic benefits of CrossFit with the aerobic development of running can be a potent stimulus for your next PR. The trick is in the balance. Here’s 3 tips to remember if you are tackling a big running goal while balancing CrossFit training.

1. Plan your week. If you are able to access the week’s CrossFit programming ahead of time this can be a huge help to structure your week. I like stacking hard days. Meaning pair your hard running days with hard CrossFit days. This allows you to have more polarization in your week so there’s recovery days and harder days and every day doesn’t just become medium hard.

2. Fuel and sleep. These are obvious but worth mentioning. To tackle these types of goals your body needs enough food and a good amount (7-9ish) hours of sleep. Plan/prep your meals around your workouts so you don’t get stuck trying to perform in a workout without any gas in the tank.

3. Prioritize aerobic development. If you are a seasoned CrossFit athlete you have the top end. Not that you shouldn’t do any faster running but the priority should be the steady, boring consistent mileage. You will be very glad to have a robust aerobic engine at mile 20 when the legs start to go.

We are so proud to feature this incredible athlete! šŸ’Ŗ
Meet Rachel — Olympic lifter, CrossFitter, and mom of 3.

Rachel came to us in severe pain that was impacting not only her workouts, but her ability to care for her kids.

In just 3 sessions, she’s back to crushing lifts — now with intentional mobility work and targeted accessory strength to keep her moving pain-free and performing at her best.

We’re honored to work with such dedicated, hardworking individuals. Your success means everything to us! šŸ™Œ

ā€œBACKS ARE THE NEW FRONTSā€

If you have ever worked with me you know I have a couple slogans, and this is on the top of the list.

The key to keeping your shoulders, neck and low back as pain free as possible is found in how strong your upper back is.

We have almost twice as much musculature posterior vs anterior. Therefore we should pull 2-3 times as much as push.

ultimately our pressing is only as strong as our upper back is capable of stabilizing!!

If you have limitations here, or maybe you have noticed the muscles of your upper back aren’t as big as the muscles in the front; come see us for tips on how to stabilize and strengthen this area.

This is why the open matters.
The memories made. The progress we’ve made. The changes in our expectations. The open is more than improving a score on a workout or placement on the leader board. It’s community and growth and fun.

The last few years my focus has shifted from CrossFit to Olympic lifting. But the open still brings a sense of magic and energy to the gym that I love and cherish. I can’t wait to get out there an crush workouts with everyone 🄰

Also how sh*tty is that my first ever CrossFit workout and open workout were burpees and thrusters LOL

3 things you probably aren’t doing (but maybe should šŸ¤”šŸ¤”šŸ¤”) to improve your front rack

1. Banded front rack W’s (more like I’s for this girl šŸ˜…)
2. Modified dolphin 🐬🐬🐬 with Coach
3. Self mobilization pronation

These three movements are helpful for athletes who lack shoulder external rotation, wrist pronation and scapular protraction.

Not sure if that’s you but want to improve your front rack? Book with your PT at Affiliate to find the best movements for you!

Let’s take a moment to recognize these fearless athletes who competed at WZA last weekend.

Jordan, Gage and Phil. It was so fun to watch you three! The cohesiveness and ease in which you came together is a testament to your fitness and adaptability. You held your own against some VERY stacked teams.

Kali. Wow. Your performance this weekend was the definition of grace and humility. Few would show up to a competition like Wodapoolza with an injury and compete. I know your Dad was proud. We can’t wait to see what you are fully capable of this season.

Affiliate PT went to WZA as the rehab and recovery team. None of the athletes needed our services besides the moral support, of course. This speaks to the programming at CrossFit Grandview and the commitment they make to their recovery!

Thank you all for trusting us with your care.
