Christopher Cooley is a legally blind and deaf person whose life is greatly enhanced by his wonderful service dog, Larkin. Chris also is a member of the Ohio Tech Ambassador Network and a passionate advocate for the rights of people with disabilities! He worked hard to make Ohio the first state with a “Service Dog Awareness Week,” which takes place the last week of July as we celebrate the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Join him and Larkin at 10 a.m. this Saturday, July 26, at Broad and High in Downtown Columbus for a Service Dog Walk.

It’s a real joy to congratulate teen athlete Aviva Pearce for her awesome accomplishments on and off the track! Aviva is a record-setting sprinter and a great student, and she was honored last month with the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award. She and her mom say they loved dressing up for the big celebration!

Don’t forget: Our free produce markets are open during the summer! The next drive-through market opens at 5 p.m. this Thursday, July 17, here at Franklin County DD, 2879 Johnstown Rd. Fresh vegetables and fruits are provided through our partnership with the Mid-Ohio Food Collective, and are available to all.

Congress is considering drastic cuts to programs that support people with developmental disabilities and their families. This loss of funding could eliminate critical services from:

✅The Ohio State University Nisonger Center

✅ UC UCEDD (University of Cincinnati Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities )

✅ Disability Rights Ohio

These programs provide everything from legal advocacy and dental care to early intervention, family support, and post-secondary education. Without them, more than 40,000 Ohioans could lose access to life-changing support.

Join us during the Week of Action (July 14–18) to make your voice heard! Email your member of Congress and urge them to fully fund all disability programs.
