March is Social Worker Month! Hospice social workers support patients and families by guiding advance care planning, facilitating tough conversations, and ensuring end‑of‑life wishes are understood, documented, and honored.

Meet Olivia Clarkson! She loves working with her North Vernon branch family and hearing the meaningful stories people share. Fun fact: she collects cow‑ and farm‑themed décor, plus stickers or mugs from every state she visits. We are grateful to have Olivia on our team!

Celebrating National Social Work Month 💙

In this episode of Better Together, Steph sits down with members of our social work team to talk about the role they play in supporting patients and families—through guidance, connection, and being there when it matters most.

From helping navigate decisions to simply listening, social workers are an important part of how we care for the whole family and make every moment count.

March is Social Worker Month! Hospice social workers play a vital role in helping patients and families navigate funeral planning. They guide families through pre‑planning, assist with choosing services, address financial or logistical challenges, and ensure final wishes are honored. By coordinating details like military benefits and offering compassionate emotional support, they provide clarity and comfort during a difficult time.

Meet Hannah Ballard! She joined Our Hospice right after earning her master’s degree from Miami University. She also holds an undergraduate degree in Sociology and Criminology from Butler University. Outside of work, Hannah loves to travel, craft, and hunt for great thrift‑store finds.

March is Social Worker Month! Hospice social workers provide emotional support and guidance to patients and families by helping them navigate end‑of‑life decisions, manage anxiety, communicate effectively, and cope with grief. They offer comprehensive bereavement services—including counseling, education, support groups, and assistance with funeral planning—and continue individualized follow‑up through calls and visits for several months after a loved one’s death. Our bereavement program includes but is not limited to monthly Grief Care small group sessions and a weekly 6-week support group program.

Meet Paula Barley Neibert, the leader of our Bereavement Program. Outside of work, Paula enjoys hands‑on creative projects that allow her to make something tangible—bringing balance to a role that focuses so deeply on the emotional experiences of others. We are grateful to have Paula on our team!
