HTH Farm Market will close on Thursday, November 7, at 3 p.m. and reopen on Friday, November 8, at 10 a.m. The staff and residents of Hope Thru Housing wish to pay our respects to Nelson French, who passed away on September 30.
Nelson passed away at the age of 99 and was Chairman of the Board of Hope Thru Housing (owner of our Market) for 10 years and a founding donor and passionate champion of our mission. A World War II veteran, a West Point graduate, a Columbus entrepreneur, and a dedicated citizen who donated countless hours to the Rotary Club, First Community Church, and many other non-profits. Nelson and his wife second, Emmy, who passed away in 2015, were the parents of 7 children, survived by 6, 5 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
His dedication to Hope Thru Housing came from his personal experience as the father of an individual with substance use disorders. He and his wife watched helplessly for years as their son, Dennis Kerr, struggled with drug and alcohol addictions. When the time was right, they drove him to a therapeutic community in Durham, North Carolina, and it saved his life. Like so many parents of addicts, they never stopped believing in him or praying for him. When Dennis returned home to Columbus in 2010 with years of sobriety under his belt, he wanted to offer a recovery program to the Columbus community; Nelson was pivotal in establishing that dream. Today, we are beyond grateful for Nelson’s dedication to our mission and honored to celebrate his life and service to our country and our community. Thank you for your understanding.
