WOW! What a perfect way to celebrate Adult Literacy Ohio's birthday!

We sang Happy Birthday (beautifully led by one of our talented learners Musical Mosaic with Mark !), enjoyed cake, played games, and spent the day surrounded by our amazing community. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us, and to those who couldn’t make it, we truly appreciate your continued support from afar.

Adult Literacy Ohio turns 4!

Just one more day until the best day of the year! We’re so excited to celebrate with our learners and tutors and recognize the incredible achievements adult learners in our program have accomplished.

From building confidence in community navigation, like reading bus schedules, understanding medication instructions, and shopping independently, to strengthening workforce development skills such as reading safety information, completing applications, and communicating effectively on the job, our learners continue to do amazing things. All of this growth leads to a stronger quality of life, opening doors to information, connection, and independence.

Thanks to our tutors, learners, and supporters, we’ve delivered 3,693 hours of one-on-one tutoring, empowering adult learners across Ohio with the tools to build confidence and create new opportunities.

This year, Adult Literacy Ohio is celebrating four years of empowering adults across Ohio through literacy, confidence-building, and opportunity. What began as a small pilot for the Down syndrome community in Central Ohio has grown into a community of learners with a range of developmental disabilities across Ohio.

This milestone belongs to our learners, tutors, partners, and supporters who make this work possible.

100 Learners. 100 stories. 100 lives changed through literacy.

Since 2022, Adult Literacy Ohio has grown from an idea into a self-directed, literacy-focused program designed to meet adults where they are. To date, 102 learners have built confidence and literacy skills that strengthen community navigation, improve quality of life, and open doors to workforce opportunities, supported every step of the way by dedicated tutors.

Over the past 12 days, we’ve shared stories that remind us why adult literacy matters.

We celebrated milestones so meaningful they made the tree.
We lifted learner voices shaping conversations about inclusion.
We shared growth: 45 adult learners served across 5 Ohio counties in this calendar year alone.
We heard about first voicemails, speeches prepared, confidence gained, and skills once thought impossible now within reach.
We highlighted learners giving back as volunteers, entrepreneurs, artists, advocates, and community leaders.

Each story reflects more than reading and writing. It reflects dignity, confidence, belonging, and opportunity.

As we close out our 12 Days of Literacy, we’re deeply grateful to everyone who learns with us, teaches with us, partners with us, and believes in the power of lifelong learning.
