What an amazing night celebrating the outstanding achievements of COTS physician leaders alongside our fellow Columbus Medical Association Affiliates!

COTS proudly honored Dr. Robert Lowe (19 years) with the inaugural Dr. Marc Parnes Physician Service Award, and Dr. Medard Lutmerding (27 years) and Dr. William Cotton (15 years) with the COTS Mission Champion Awards. In addition, Dr. Lutmerding was recognized with the 50-Year Physician Award, a remarkable testament to his enduring service and dedication to the medical community.

As longtime board members, these leaders have guided COTS with vision, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to community well-being. Their servant leadership and tireless advocacy continue to shape both COTS and the communities we serve.

Recent news may be raising questions about autism, acetaminophen and vitamin B. Experts in autism, pregnancy and pediatrics have all issued guidance through their professional organizations. Nationwide Children's experts are sharing this guidance to help parents navigate their questions. As always, parents are encouraged to speak with their child’s healthcare provider about their specific situation.

Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Tressel recognize September as 'Sepsis Awareness Month"

The Ohio Hospital Association (OHA) Board of Trustees identified reducing sepsis mortality in Ohio as one of the key focus areas for OHA and Ohio hospitals. Sepsis is the body’s overwhelming and life-threatening response to infection that can lead to tissue damage, organ failure and death.

In other words, it’s your body’s over active and toxic response to an infection. Early recognition and treatment can reduce the morbidity and mortality of sepsis. OHA is honored to partner with the Sepsis Alliance, which offers valuable resources on its website.

Columbus, Ohio — The State of Ohio proudly recognizes Aug. 15 as Emergency Management Recognition Day to honor the dedicated professionals who work behind the scenes year-round to protect communities before, during, and after emergencies and disasters.

For the COTS 36-county region, Jodi, Kelsey, Arin, and Sierra serve in the emergency management (EM) role.

Please take a moment to recognize your organization's EM team.

Emergency managers play a critical role in coordinating preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts for crisis situations and disasters. From developing emergency plans, managing resources, and releasing public information to providing resources such as disaster assistance and staffing Emergency Operations Centers, their work helps save lives and reduce the impact of disasters on individuals, communities, infrastructure, and the environment.
