OSU Injury Biomechanics Research Center

OSU Injury Biomechanics Research Center The IBRC established and annually hosts the Injury Biomechanics Symposium.

The Injury Biomechanics Research Center is a multiple discipline research center dedicated to investigating the relationships between human injury and physical mechanical properties. The Injury Biomechanics Research Center (IBRC) brings together an interdisciplinary team of engineers, anatomists, anthropologists, computer modelers, and technicians who focus on mechanisms of injury and injury thres

holds of the human body. The IBRC is a site for the multi-university I/UCRC (Industry/University Cooperative Research Center) for CChIPS (the Center for Child Injury Prevention Studies). CChIPS is a joint venture with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia striving to advance the safety of children, youth, and young adults by facilitating the conduct of scientific inquiry into the causes and mechanisms of injury, and by translating these findings into commercial applications and public education programs for prevention. With the statement "Children are not small adults", CChIPS gathers industrial support to advance the knowledge of child injury mechanisms and create an international research community that seamlessly translates research into prevention. This symposium is intended to stimulate and reward strong injury biomechanics research among students and recent graduates from all over the world. The symposium delivers original biomechanics research in a forum intended to foster communication between developing and established researchers.

IBRC Alumni!!

We invite all past students, staff, and faculty of the IBRC to return to campus and join us in celebrating 20 years of the IBRC and IBS. Please join us on May 17th, 2025, for a celebration and open house as we reflect on the past two decades. We would love to have everyone back to share memories of your time with the IBRC, catch up on where life has taken you, hear about our future goals, and tour our current space in Graves Hall.

We're updating our alumni list and contact information for everyone who has been part of the IBRC. This updated list will help us send out save-the-date notices and other details about the 20th Anniversary IBRC Party in the coming months. Please email your contact information and any updates you'd like to share to ibrc@osu.edu. We're excited to hear from you and look forward to seeing you next May!

Our child safety team (Gretchen Baker, Rosalie Connell, and Julie Mansfield) gave three talks at this year's Protection of Children in Cars - The Langwieder Conference. We are excited for this opportunity to share our work with an international assembly of industry experts, researchers, and safety advocates. Thank you to CChIPS for making this research possible!

Last week, we were proud to share some of our pediatric safety research at the Protection of Children in Cars (Langwieder Conference) in Munich, Germany. Gretchen Baker attended in person and presented her new booster belt fit data, and Julie Mansfield presented virtually about CRS usability for consumers.
