Something to think about from today's reading in CoDA's "In This Moment Daily Meditation Book" ... I know there is something good for me in every situation. I just need to be aware in order to find it.

Today's reading from Melody Beattie's Language of Letting Go:

"Our basic recovery concept that never loses its power to work miracles is the concept called acceptance.

We do not achieve acceptance in a moment. We often have to work through a mirage of feelings — sometimes anger, outrage, shame, self-pity or sadness. But if acceptance is our goal, we will achieve it.

What is more freeing than to laugh at our weakness and be grateful for our strengths? To know that the entire package called "us" — with all of our feelings, thoughts, tendencies, and history — is worthy of acceptance and brings healing feelings.

To accept our circumstances is another miraculous cure. For anything to change or anyone to change, we must first accept ourselves, others, and the circumstances exactly as they are. Then, we need to take it one step further. We need to become grateful for ourselves or our circumstances. We add a touch of faith by saying, "I know this is exactly the way it's supposed to be for the moment."

No matter how complicated we get, the basics never lose their power to restore us to sanity.

Today, Higher Power, help me practice the concept of acceptance in my life. Help me accept myself, others, and my circumstances. Take me one step further, and help me feel grateful."

The operative phrase for me in this entire thing is "for the moment." I have to accept some things I am not I am not comfortable with right now but knowing that it is "for the moment" makes that acceptance easier.

What are you struggling with that would be easier if you knew it was only "for the moment?"

From yesterday's reading from The Language of Letting Go by Melody Beattie...

"We cannot base our expectations about how we will feel tomorrow, or even a few hours from now, on how we feel at this moment."

Read that a few times and let it sink it. It means a lot to me today.

From today's reading in "The Language of Letting Go" by Melody Beattie:

Today I will remind myself that it is my right to feel as good as I can. I have many moments of feeling good; I can find a balanced place of feeling content, peaceful and good.

Honor yourself.

Honor yourself.

This is so very important. It has helped me much in times of need. Maybe it can help you as well.

The January entries in CoDA's In This Moment Daily Meditation Book are really hitting home for me ... so I am sharing today's because I think that if I need to hear it, someone else does too.

In this moment ... I do not have to do anything.

When I am faced with a painful reality, when I don't like the plan, I reach into my heart and remember my Higher Power's plan is greater than any I could imagine. I ask for help in coming to acceptance. I look to Steps One, Two and Three, and realize I am powerless. I have made a decision to believe in a Higher Power and I have decided to turn my will and my life over to this High Power. In so doing, I am relieved of the pressure to do something. I live in the moment and accept what is.

Another entry from CoDA's In This Moment Daily Meditation Book that really speaks to me today:

In This Moment ... I ask for God's help.

Oftentimes, before I try to do something different, fear waits for me at the door, keeping me from experimenting with new behaviors. As a result, I continue to do what's comfortable instead of what's healthy. I need to do three things to change this pattern: ask God for help, believe God is helping me, and take action.

Asking for help requires some effort because it is hard to commit to change. After I ask for God's help, the next step involves the practical application of my faith. Even if I can't convince myself that God is helping me right now, I can "act as it" God is helping me through this stage of recovery. I take positive action. I can accomplish what used to baffle and paralyze me. I act with new confidence and commitment to purpose. Then hope and integrity return to my life.

This was yesterday's reading from CoDA's In This Moment Daily Meditation Book. I read it this morning and it was what I needed to read today so I thought I would share:

In this moment I know the pain will end.

I know there will be more occasions of pain in my life. I know there will be more occasions of happiness and joy.

Becoming an observer of my life helps me to see there will be both joy and pain. recovery teaches me to work through the pain and to revel in the happiness. There WILL be both.

I will learn from the pain and know that I will be happy again.
