"Not everyone contributes, but everyone benefits." Dr. Eric Drobny compares OSMA to public radio — the work impacts all Ohio physicians, but only members keep it going.

Understanding what OSMA does behind the scenes changes everything. The organization creates a foundation that makes practicing medicine in Ohio possible. Without member support, that foundation crumbles.

The Ohio Legislature wrapped up for 2025, and OSMA is proud to share that all major insurance reform proposals we are supporting have advanced through at least one committee hearing, which was important momentum for physicians and patients statewide.

Highlights include progress on prior authorization gold card (HB 214), network adequacy (HB 219), non-medical switching (SB 160), and AI transparency in health plans (SB 164). We also stood firm on scope of practice, with physician leaders testifying against proposals that risk patient safety and the physician-led care model.

Stay tuned for our biannual Advocacy Report in January, and read our year-end recap here: https://osma.org/aws/OSMA/pt/sd/news_article/609233/_PARENT/layout_details-news/false

Thank you for an amazing year of advocacy, and happy holidays!

We love to see Ohio’s leaders engaging with Ohio medicine!

Last week, OSMA physician member and surgeon Dr. Alisha Reiss hosted a practice visit with Angie King, State Representative (District 84). These firsthand conversations help lawmakers better understand the realities physicians face and how policy decisions impact patient care across our state.

Thank you to Dr. Reiss and Rep. King for taking the time to connect and engage on issues affecting Ohio physicians and their patients.

This summer, OSMA Foundation Summer Scholar Aidan Butler joined the research team at Rosalind Franklin University in Dr. Holly Hunsberger’s lab, exploring how anxiety, benzodiazepines, and psilocybin influence memory and brain function in Alzheimer’s disease, with a focus on differences between men and women.

His work is revealing a critical insight: biological s*x may influence how patients respond to these treatments, with psilocybin showing promising cognitive benefits and benzodiazepines carrying distinct risks that vary between men and women.
