From our friends at Step

As we are seeing more vaccine hesitancy, we have been getting more questions about aluminum in vaccines. Trace amounts of aluminum have been in vaccines since the 30's as an adjuvant that boosts immunity and makes vaccines more effective. The concern is that if aluminum activates the immune system, then you could trigger autoimmune conditions and chronic fatigue. The is where the too much, too many, too soon concerns come from.
We want to activate the immune system with vaccines, that is how they work. Also, getting sick with vaccine preventable illnesses stimulates the immune system hundreds of times more than any vaccine. Multiple studies of vaccines have shown NO association with vaccines and any autoimmune conditions.
Aluminum is in the environment, it is in our food, and it is in the deodorant you are wearing right now. The amount of aluminum in vaccines is minimal compared to that exposure.
The truth is, some people just don't want vaccines. They will always find something to justify their feelings.

Measles Symptoms or Exposure Concerns?

Call us first, do NOT schedule an in-office visit.

Due to the Highly Contagious nature of Measles. Patients should NOT be seen in the Office, Urgent Care or Emergency Room, consistent with Nationwide Children’s Hospital current safety protocol.

All testing is ordered through an E Visit or phone call for evaluation and potential testing. Patients are to remain “Isolated at Home” until cleared by the Health Department.

We will order testing through NCH, but this must be arranged before scheduling to limit everyone’s exposure and protect the vulnerable.

Prevention is our best defense.

Measles Watch!

We continue to follow the current Measles outbreak. In times of LOCAL outbreaks, the Local Health Department may recommend an alternate vaccination schedule to protect the community. If alternative schedules are recommended. Our office will attempt to reach out to our patients who fall within any accelerated schedule recommendation.

What you should do now:
1. Confirm your child is up to date by reviewing their vaccine history. They should receive 2 doses of MMR/MMRV by the 5 year Well visit. Routine Vaccines for MMR- Measles Mumps and Rubella occur at the 12 month and 4-6 year Well visits. (You can find your child’s vaccine status on your MyChart. Go to menu, Scroll to Health Summary then Immunizations.)
2. Watch the news for Alerts from the Local Health Department instructing accelerated vaccine schedules.
3. If traveling to an area with a current outbreak or internationally call our office for guidance.
4. Confirm your contact information on file with our office is accurate. Answer phone calls and communications from us.
5. Stay up to date on Annual Well Visits.

*For families who wish or need to take a more proactive approach, you can elect for early MMR vaccination 1-5 years of age. We will be holding a MMR vaccination Clinic this FRIDAY, April 4. Simply call our office to schedule. (Babies 6-11 months are also eligible to receive their first vaccination early, this early dose will not count toward their standard 2 dose series and they will need additional doses at age 12 months and 4 years.)

Thank you for partnering with us for your child’s health care.
