What do you know about fat⁉️

Truth is, our bodies need fat for energy, to absorb vitamins, and to protect our heart and brain health. It is the "bad" fat that we need to stay away from, not the "good fat" ✨

"Good" fats are good for your heart, cholesterol, and overall health ❤️

Here are top 7 sources of good fats:
1. Avocado
2. Olive oil
3. Nuts
4. Soy milk
5. Peanut butter
6. Sesame oil
7. Fatty fish like tuna or salmon

5 common causes of hypothyroidism that we need to talk about❗️

1. Autoimmunity
This happens often when our immune system which protects our body from invading infections is in complete overdrive 🥹

2. Poor gut health
This can definitely impair thyroid function. The body can't absorb nutrients properly, which leads to imbalance of good and bad bacteria 🦠

3. High stress level
A high stress level causes our body to produce more stress hormones and less thyroid hormones. The body tends to suffer burn out❗️

4. Too much or too little iodine
Iodine is crucial to produce thyroid hormones. Hence, having the right amount of iodine is important 💯

5. Existing medication(s)
Certain medications can interfere with our thyroid gland functioning optimally as well 💊

Just a gentle reminder for myself and anyone who may need it ❤️‍🩹

Engaging in a self-care routine has been clinically proven to reduce anxiety, depression, stress, improve concentration and energy, minimize frustration and anger, increase happiness, and more❣️

A lot of times my self care involves music, minus the cat 🐱, plus two loud little girls, and a karaoke machine 🤣💖💖

It’s Thyroid Tuesday🦋

What are some signs you might have that could be attributed to your thyroid not functioning optimally? 👀

▪️ Weight gain
Weight gain is perhaps one of the first noticeable symptoms of hypothyroidism in patients. This is related to a slower than normal metabolism.

▪️ Excessive fatigue
You may feel extremely tired all the time, no matter how much sleep you get.

▪️ Cold intolerance
A slower metabolism from hypothyroidism may also lower your body heat.

▪️ Depression
Inadequate amounts of thyroid hormones can cause changes in your mood.

Facts about panic attacks!

They are intense episodes of fear, which can be so powerful that it tricks you into feeling that you are about to faint or about to die, i.e. losing control over yourself in some vital ways.

They can come out of nowhere and completely consume us.

The symptoms of a panic attack are so powerful and threatening that they can convince you that you are in great danger. It convinces you that you aren't safe!

A panic attack can last for up to 20-30 minutes!

They are real. Your feelings are valid. Healing is possible.

Did you know? Graves' disease is a common cause of hyperthyroidism! 💯

Although a number of disorders may result in hyperthyroidism, Graves' disease is a common cause. It is an immune system disorder that results in the overproduction of thyroid hormones.

Here are some factors that can increase the risk of this disease:

1. Family history
If you have family history of Graves' disease, you may be more susceptible.

2. Gender
Women are much more likely to develop Graves' disease than are men.

3. Pre-existing autoimmune disorders
People with other autoimmune disorders, such as type 1 diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis, have an increased risk.

4. Smoking
Cigarette smoking, which can affect the immune system, increases the risk of Graves' disease.

5. Stress
Stressful life events and/or illness may act as triggers to developing Graves' disease.

6. Pregnancy
Pregnancy or recent childbirth may increase risk, particularly among women who have genes that increase their risk.

7. Age
Graves' disease usually develops in people before age 40.

Autoimmune Paleo diet for Hashimoto's disease 🦋

This diet mimics the eating patterns of our early ancestors, which has emphasis on whole, unprocessed foods 💛

Consider including these in your diet:
1. Cage-free, grass-fed meat
2. Organic vegetables
3. Nuts
4. Seafood
5. Healthy fats such as avocado or olive oil

Consider avoiding these in your diet:
1. Gluten
2. Dairy
3. Refined sugar
4. Refined oils
5. Alcohol

The Autoimmune Paleo (AIP) diet excludes or decreases foods that cause inflammation and damage to the gut.

On average, you can expect to see results within 30-90 days of implementing the AIP diet. However, it might vary from person to person.

Implementing AIP diet can help Hashimoto's patients see significant improvement in joint pain, muscle aches, headaches, sleep quality, energy, body weight, mood, and cognitive function, among many others.

It is a great way to help reprogram thoughts. Once you have your affirmations, write them out on a piece of paper/post-it and put it where you’ll see it multiple times a day. You could also use a dry erase marker and write on a board or mirror.

Use the power of visualization to manifest the life that you want.

3. Meditation 💛
It can give a sense of peace and balance that can benefit your emotional well-being and overall health.

With increase in thyroid hormone, many of the body’s functions speed up.

You may have anxiety and panic attacks, rapid heart rate, weight loss, difficulty sleeping, irregular periods, diarrhea, and other signs of a higher functioning metabolism.

Eating foods that have large amounts of iodine may cause or worsen hyperthyroidism.

Postpartum recovery tips 💛

Every birth is different and every person has their own journey on the path from pregnancy to labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery.

These postpartum care tips can help your recovery process 🤱🏻

1. Sleep/rest whenever possible
The thing your body needs most after you give birth is rest — both physical and mental. I know this is much easier said than done, but try 😅

2. Eat healthy meals
This will aid in healing and keeping your body nourished. Have smaller, more frequent meals and stay hydrated.

3. Ask for help
Let others around help with cooking and cleaning whenever possible (or hire a postpartum care doula 🙃🙋🏽‍♀️), so that you can rest❣️

4. Move your body
Your body needs rest to heal, but your body also needs to move. Take a stroll around your house or walk down the street when you feel up for it❣️ It will benefit your mental health too💛

5. Take care of your breasts
If you're breastfeeding, let your breasts air out after every nursing session to help prevent cracked ni***es.

6. Try not to compare
Every journey is unique. Don't compare yourself to others. Social media might make everything look "perfect", but it rarely is❗️

7. Check in with a medical professional
Postpartum care ideally includes being in touch with a medical professional who can help you through the recovery process.
