📅 On September 18, 1895, in Davenport, Iowa, Daniel David (D.D.) Palmer performed the first chiropractic adjustment. 👐 He adjusted the spine 🦴 of Harvey Lillard, a janitor 🧹 who had lost most of his hearing 👂 17 years earlier after feeling a “pop” in his back. 💥 Following the adjustment, Lillard reported a restoration of his hearing. 🔊

This historic event marked the birth 🎉 of chiropractic care, establishing the foundation of a new health profession 🩺 focused on the relationship between the spine and overall well-being 🌿.

The climb concluded with a solemn tribute. Each climber stepped forward to ring the memorial bell and call out the name of the firefighter whose badge they carried.

For more than 150 years, the fire service has used the bell as a symbol of honor and respect. In the early days, bells signaled the beginning of a shift, a call to duty, or the return of a company to the station. When a firefighter died in the line of duty, the telegraph would tap out the signal “5-5-5-5,” and the bell would ring in that pattern to announce to all that a comrade had made the ultimate sacrifice.

This tradition, known as the “Last Alarm” or “Striking the Four Fives,” marks the end of duty and the passing of a hero. Today, each ring of the bell echoed in remembrance of the 343 who gave their lives on September 11, 2001.

Their duty is complete. Their sacrifice lives on.

The stair climb begins as Columbus’ finest lead the way. Suited in full gear, they take the first steps of the 110-story journey.

One step at a time, the climb starts in honor of the 343 firefighters who gave everything on September 11, 2001.

A special honor was given during the ceremony as the Mayor presented Dr. Ken with a proclamation declaring September 6th as 9/11 Fallen Firefighter Day in Columbus.

This recognition ensures that the memory of the 343 firefighters who gave their lives on September 11, 2001 will be honored in our community every year.

Dr. Ken opened the ceremony with gratitude for the many sponsors who made this day possible, and for the Columbus firefighters who stood with us in full gear to lead the climb.

Their presence was a living reminder of the weight carried by those who responded on September 11, 2001, both the heavy gear on their shoulders and the burden of courage in their hearts as they climbed 110 stories.

Today, we honor their sacrifice by taking each step in remembrance.

The event opened with a historic radio announcement of the World Trade Center under attack, a reminder of the morning that changed our nation forever.

The Columbus Fire Department Color Guard then presented the colors, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, as we gathered together to honor the memory of the 343 fallen firefighters and all who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

Today marks the beginning of our inaugural 9/11 Stair Climb.

For the past year, Dr. Ken has worked to bring this event to life in honor of the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

Before us is a box containing the badges of each firefighter who perished that day. During this climb, every badge will be carried with reverence by the men and women who step forward to honor their memory. Together, they will complete 110 stories and 2,200 steps, symbolically finishing the journey those heroes could not.

We climb in solemn remembrance, so their courage and sacrifice are never forgotten. ❤️🇺🇸
