- Weight loss is a top recommendation by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons for mitigating osteoarthritis of the knee in patients with BMI greater than or equal to 25.
- The odds of sustaining an MSK injury are 15% greater if overweight and 48% greater for Class III obesity.
- Every 1 pound of excess weight causes an additional 4 pounds of pressure on the knee joint and 10 pounds of pressure on the lower back.
- A patient with obesity is more likely to experience the following complications after surgery: infection, poor wound healing, difficulty breathing, blood clots, or pulmonary embolism. Cold/flu/COVID season is here 🥶🤧—and the best defense is still the basics (done consistently).

Here are 10 lifestyle moves that help support your immune system and reduce your odds of getting sick:
1. Aim for 8 hours of sleep
2. Wash hands often (20 seconds)
3. Eat nutrient-dense foods (think Mediterranean-style)
4. Stop touching your face (eyes/nose/mouth)
5. Move daily (regular exercise supports immune function)
6. Avoid close contact with sick people
7. Limit alcohol (excess can weaken immune response)
8. Get enough vitamin D
9. Cut back or quit smoking
10. Hydrate with water 💧

Earn “hearts” for cardio, strength, and stretching—plus bonus points for a weekly coach check-in and wearing red on Fridays. Goal: 40 hearts by month-end.

✅ Be Heart Smart: 8 Dimensions of Wellness
Because heart health isn’t just cardio—it’s also sleep, stress, relationships, environment, purpose, routines, and support. Knock out one task in each wellness dimension each week and stack small wins.
