We are back at it! The Chicken Palace Project is moving forward since we had some lovely weather this weekend. The last two winter storms did some serious damage to the existing coop, we've stabilized it and the girls are fine, but we needed to kick start the completion of the new compound...we did a fair amount of work this weekend! Next weekend we should be able to enclose it completely! Unfortunately, the garden kitties will no longer be able to use it, but we have a summer project to build them a new shelter!

Elderflower + Elderberry — In Support of Balanced Blood Sugar

As we close our Elderberry Herb of the Week, we want to highlight one of the ways this plant shows up in our apothecary.

Both elderflower and elderberry have a long history of traditional use in supporting metabolic balance — particularly in helping the body maintain healthy blood sugar regulation as part of an overall wellness routine.

They are thoughtfully combined in our:

Blood Sugar Balance Botanical Tincture

This formula was crafted to:
• Support healthy glucose metabolism
• Encourage metabolic steadiness
• Complement a balanced lifestyle and nourishing diet

Like all of our botanical formulations, it is rooted in traditional herbal wisdom and designed for daily, sustainable support.

Elderflower & Elderberry — A Plant of Many Traditions

Our Herb of the Week reminds us that elder is more than a seasonal staple — it’s a plant woven through kitchen, apothecary, and craft.

Here are a few ways elder has been traditionally used:

✨ Elderflowers
• Infused into syrups, cordials, and honeys for bright floral beverages
• Steeped as a gentle tea traditionally used during seasonal transitions
• Added to facial steams for aromatic botanical skin rituals

🍇 Elderberries
• Simmered into traditional syrups for immune resilience
• Prepared into jams, shrubs, and oxymels (berries must always be properly cooked)
• Crafted into glycerites and tinctures for the apothecary shelf

🧵 Fabric & Craft
• Elderberries produce beautiful muted purple-to-grey natural dyes (with mordant variation)
• Historically used for inks and staining applications
• Hollow elder stems were traditionally fashioned into simple whistles and flutes

From nourishment to resilience to creative expression, elder is truly a whole-plant gift.

Which use surprises you most?

Herb of the Week: Elderberry
A time-honored botanical for immune resilience.

For centuries, elderberry has been used as a traditional ally during seasonal transitions — especially when the body benefits from extra support.

Deeply pigmented and rich in protective plant compounds, elderberry has long been appreciated for helping the body respond well to environmental stressors and maintain balanced immune function.

In this week’s blog, we explore:
• The traditional roots of elderberry
• Why it remains a seasonal staple
• How to incorporate it thoughtfully into your routine

If you keep elderberry in your apothecary (or are curious whether you should), this is a wonderful place to begin.
