Grand Rising & Welcome to the Village. ✨

My name is Ifẹ́ Olùsọ̀ Ìyè Tuntun, Founder and Director of Cherishing Life Beginnings Doula Service and Cherishing Life Beginnings Divine Mother Foundation, Inc.
I carry a name that is also an assignment:
🧬to tend what is sacred
🧬to guard what is vulnerable
🧬to restore life where it has been fractured, rushed, or forgotten

If you are here, it is not by accident.This space gathers those who remember that birth, healing, grief, and community were never meant to be separated.

Some know me as Mama Ife. Others recognize the work before they know the name. I am a Holistic Birth & Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator, Student Midwife, Doula Trainer, Death Doula, and Community Builder. I walk with women and families across life’s most sacred thresholds from womb to tomb, from first breath to final transition.

I do not work from trends or algorithms. I work from ancestral memory, embodied wisdom, and lived practice.

I am the Founder & Director of Cherishing Life Beginnings Doula Service and Cherishing Life Beginnings Divine Mother Foundation, Inc.

Through this work, we are actively restoring what modern systems have fractured:

One thing they will always say about Ife Birth Gatekeeper, she knows how to put an excellent team together. A traditional midwife Kendra M-fiya, midwife assistant, ME, and student doula Kikeila Jennings, ready to serve our beautiful client Sharlena Porter and family.

I tried to step out of "the boots on the ground" birthwork and focus on another aspect of birthwork, training and education. Yet, when spirit says, 🤔 what the hell are you doing, you got mamas to take care of because the death rates in the hospitals even with all types of money being thrown at the the issue isn't a solution. My tribe, my community, all community based birth professionals in both the homesetting and hospital setting, and myself are NEEDED. WE are the solution.

Mom Turned Away in Active Labor. Baby Born on the Side of the Road. And now, she is back in the hospital fighting post-birth trauma and complications.

Let THAT s**t sink in!

On November 16th, Mercedes Wells did everything right. She went to the hospital. She told them she was in pain. She advocated for herself. And yet, a nurse did not believe she was in active labor and sent her home.

Eight minutes later, Mercedes gave birth on the side of the road.

Not in a safe, warm, supported environment. Not with midwives who listen. Not with a doula by her side. But on the road… with her body doing what it was created to do, unsupported and dismissed.

And now? Mercedes is back in the hospital with post-birth health complications, hemorrhaging, trauma, and pain, all because a system built to “protect” her did not honor her voice or her body.

The hospital later fired the nurse and the physician involved. But accountability does NOT erase the trauma. It does NOT restore trust. It does NOT fix the systemic problem.

Let me be VERY clear:

This is NOT a rare incident. This is not an “oops.” This is the reality of maternal care in America.

🔸 Black women are 3–4x more likely to die during childbirth than white women.
🔸 Over 60% of maternal deaths are preventable.
🔸 Disrespect, dismissal, and delayed care are major contributing factors.
🔸 And hospitals continue to send women home in pain, unheard, and in danger.

This is EXACTLY why homebirth is not a trend.
💫It is not an aesthetic.
💫It is not “alternative.”
💫It is not a luxury.

For many families, HOME BIRTH is a NECESSITY for survival.

In a guarded, over-medicalized system that too often ignores women, especially Black women, homebirths with trained community midwives and doulas offer something priceless and too often missing:
✨ Listening
✨ Respect
✨ Autonomy
✨ Safety
✨ Evidence-based support
✨ Compassion
✨ Continuity of care

A woman in labor should NEVER have to:
❌ Prove she’s in pain
❌ Beg to be believed
❌ Fight for urgent care
❌ Birth on the side of the road
❌ Return days later hemorrhaging because no one listened

Birth is sacred.
Birth is instinctual.
Birth requires presence, not dismissal.

Hospitals are important. But trust this:
🤰🏾Birth is safest where mothers are RESPECTED.
For thousands of women each year, that safety is found at home not because they are “brave” but because the system leaves them no other safe option.

To Mercedes…
To every mother who has screamed and been ignored…
To every woman who has been told “it’s not time yet”…
To every mother who knew her body and was dismissed…

The 4th Annual Ancestral Starseed Celebration is approaching, and we would be honored to hold space for you and your loved ones.

This year’s theme, Whispers of the Womb: They Came Through Us, Not to Us, is a reminder that even the briefest presence leaves an eternal light. We will gather as a community to say their names, honor their spirits, and celebrate their everlasting presence.

💛 If you or someone you know has experienced pregnancy or infant loss through miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion, SIDS, or DV we invite you to be recognized as an Honorary Family during this sacred evening.

✨ As an honorary family, you will be included in our “Say Their Name” ritual and invited to place a token, photo, or item of remembrance on the altar. You will also receive a resource bag filled with items of love, light, and support.
