Every year I choose to give back to the community in a big way. I love this job. I love the way working together transforms you as the client and me as the practitioner. Physical touch creates connection and fosters peace, and for some folks it's the difference between feeling safe and cared for and feeling disconnected.

I believe in what I do, and I believe in you. Tell your friends, your neighbors, and that guy at work who always comains of back pain - maybe a massage is the answer.

I'm excited to announce that I am now taking Lymphatic Drainage clients! Manual Lymphatic Drainage massage, or MLD, is a specific and gentle modality designed to help the body properly move lymph fluid. It's effective for conditions like fibromyalgia, lymphedema, and for post injury or surgery swelling.

*please note that I cannot see clients who require bandaging, sleeves, Drainage tubes, and other devices at this time. Post injury and surgery needs clearance from a doctor.

Did you know that I accept medical clients? If you have a prescription from a doctor or referral from another medical provider for specialized or maintenance care, I will charge a lower set rate. Since most insurance does not cover massage therapy, I work with clients to retain services at an affordable rate for medical massage. I also take HSA/FSA cards!

One of the most common questions I get as a therapist is "How much do I tip?" The answer varies depending on who you ask!

American culture around tipping has many facets and valid arguments for and against it, but tipping policy will vary from therapist to therapist. Most independent therapists charge a rate comparable to their skillset and experience, and one that assures them a living wage. Some have a no tip policy because they don't want clients to feel burdened. Others, such as myself, are happy to receive them and consider them a gesture of goodwill, but never an expectation or necessity. I do this job because I love to do it, and I charge what I charge to pay my own living expenses. Anything beyond that is a gift.

15-20% is standard for good service, so much like any other service you should prepare to spend 15-20% on top of the total for your massage if you enjoyed it and want to tip. Everyone loves good tippers! But if you really want to show your appreciation for us, tell your friends, family, and coworkers about us and send them our way. We love what we do and we love seeing familiar faces. Repeat business from regular clients is what keeps a therapist in business, and most of us would rather have your business than have you worry about how much to tip us.

The only time I will advise clients to tip is when they frequent spas and salons owned by an employer or contractor. These people receive either an hourly wage or a percentage of the total profits, and many chains undervalue their massage staff while they take a larger cut to pay for overhead and administrative costs. While this does allow for therapists to focus on just doing their jobs, they earn a much smaller amount of the profit from their labor. It is a kindness to put a little extra in their pockets.

Tl;Dr?

The best way to show independent therapists appreciation is to keep them in business. For contracted workers, 15-20% is standard and always appreciated but never expected.
