π Embrace Your Vibrancy π
Diving into a sea of umbrellas at Callaway Gardens, one stood out from the rest β a vibrant pink masterpiece, boldly showcasing its unique profile amidst a symphony of colors. As I snapped this photo, I couldn't help but see it as a metaphor for embracing our individuality and daring to stand out.
In a world often crowded with conformity, the pink umbrella reminds us that it's okay β even beautiful β to be different. Just like each umbrella in this stunning installation adds its own hue to the palette, each of us brings our own unique perspective and strengths to the table.
So let's celebrate our differences, embrace our quirks, and dare to be that bright pink umbrella in a sea of conformity. After all, it's our uniqueness that adds color to the world. π¨

Another Labor Day. Another day to reflect on why I love what I have been called to do.
Last year on Labor Day we were at a race with @TeamJimOwen and I left a little early to meet with a new client for coffee. While she and I were discussing her upcoming birth, I got the call that every doula dreads... βCome now. They want to do a c-section.β
I excused myself and headed to the hospital, praying that they wouldnβt make a decision before I got there. I got in the room to find mom and dad talking to a LOVELY resident who was calm and reassuring, and who was confident that there was no reason to rush into anything. When he left, dad stepped out to make calls to update the family. Mom and I had a moment to chat about what her options were and what she felt like she wanted to do.
Then the resident came back in the room. βThe doctor says we need to prep you for a c-section now because he doesnβt want to wait around all day to do what heβs going to have to do later, anyway.β
Mom was prepared. She told the resident that she would like to wait to discuss it with the perinatologist and her husband before they made any decisions. (Keep in mind...this mom is not in labor...but there is barbecue waiting.) They discussed her options and the perinatologist agreed that a cesarean was not in her or the babyβs best interest. They decided on a slow induction with careful monitoring...which resulted in a healthy mom and baby delivered a few hours later.
The whole point of this is... I love what I do. I feel like it IS my calling. Do I miss family stuff? Yep. Do I have to make sure there is gas in my car at all times? Yep. Do I miss trips out of town with my friends? Yep.
But there are THESE mamas who call at 35 weeks and say βCome now.β
And so I do. Happy Labor Day to all you moms and potential moms out there. And Happy βalmostβ Birthday to Levi.
