Representation indicates that children should be able to show their understanding of mathematics in a variety of ways. Children can represent their understanding verbally; through writing; through pictures or paintings; through models built with materials like chenille stems, modeling dough, or clay; through dance; through music; through whatever means that are available to them at the time.

Here are some examples of reasoning during play and how you, as a caregiver, can support it.

Follow these toy safety tips to keep your child safe this holiday season:

1. Follow age guidance and other safety information on toy packaging and choose toys that match each child's interests and abilities.

2. Get safety gear, including helmets, for scooters and other riding toys–and make sure that children use them every time.

3. Keep small balls and toys with small parts away from children younger than age 3, and keep deflated balloons away from children younger than age 8.

4. Once the gifts are open, immediately discard plastic wrappings or other packaging on toys before they become dangerous playthings.

Usually little kids drink enough between water and foods that have moisture in them like fruits and veggies. You can make water available during meals and snacks, as well as making it easy for them to access the rest of the day. It's just like food —you make it available, and they choose whether or not to eat.

These ideas may add some fun and help you get your child drinking water.

If your child is experiencing constipation or dehydration these may help too, but it's also important to check in with your child's healthcare provider.

A little novelty can go a long way. You don't have to have a huge selection cups and straws, these are just some options. Keep in mind that some of these things are choking hazards for the little ones, so only get things that are safe for your child. Additionally, add a silicone straw tip to any metal straws for safety purposes.

If you ALWAYS do one kind of fun thing, it will lose its novelty very quickly. So, mix it up, and save the fun things for when you really need to help your child get more interested in water.
