"Mrs. Joseph has been such a blessing to our family. My son, is blind and had fallen behind in learning how to read while focusing on learning the Braille Code. Mrs. Joseph has helped him refocus on reading, and his confidence and skills have grown tremendously.

She has gone above and beyond—learning some braille herself, seeking out braille resources for him, and showing incredible patience as he learns. With strategies like giving reading breaks, taking turns reading, and setting achievable goals (like reading to his brother), she has made learning both motivating and meaningful. Thanks to her support, my son not only reads more confidently but also enjoys the process."

Your story matters!

Your story matters!

Congressional leaders still need to hear from you!

ElevateDD stands alongside many organizations rooted in the developmental disabilities community in efforts to share stories with Congress from the families we serve about the importance of special education.

The Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) plays a vital role in protecting the rights of students with disabilities and supporting the people who serve them. Without it, the promise of IDEA is at serious risk. We’re calling on our community to join us in urging Congress to restore these cuts for the sake of every child, family, and educator who depends on them.

You can use National Down Syndrome Congress’s advocacy alert to share with your congressional leaders how special education and IEPs have supported your child, and why it is critical that these resources remain available: https://ndsccenter.org/policy/action-center

Inclusion starts with connection, and today’s Big Table conversation proved just that!

Learning Aid Ohio was honored to join partners from the Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities to discuss how we can expand inclusive pathways in education for students with disabilities across Ohio.

Together, we explored how individualized support, tutoring, and collaboration between families, schools, and community organizations can make inclusion not just a goal, but a reality.

Thank you to The Columbus Foundation for bringing our community together for meaningful dialogue and shared action.

"Mrs. Green is the absolute best tutor and person! She has a way of connecting with kids that is truly remarkable. I couldn’t have picked a better tutor—my learner has behavioral challenges, yet she gets him to participate every time. I feel so blessed as a grandmother raising my grandchildren to be part of this program. I just want to say thank you!" – Learning Aid Ohio Account Manager

"I am so much happier knowing my son is getting exactly what he needs—one-on-one sessions with a professional teacher. His confidence has grown so much; he used to second-guess himself often before we began this journey. I’ve also noticed his critical thinking skills improving, especially after his teacher introduced him to playing UNO. He now reads with better fluency and no longer has to pause as long to figure out unfamiliar words. The progress has been amazing to see!" - Learning Aid Ohio Account Manager

"Mrs. Wade has helped my son see that learning can be fun. Despite his separation anxiety, he walked right in on the first day and said, 'Bye, Mom'—a huge accomplishment for him. She makes him feel welcome and relaxed, teaches creative ways to learn and remember letters, and incorporates fun word games. Her encouragement and celebration of his achievements have made a real difference in his learning." – Learning Aid Ohio Account Manager

For Tutor Appreciation Week, we are celebrating tutors who go above and beyond to support learners and their families!

"Having these talented tutors has been a game changer for our family. They genuinely care about my son and have become like family. Thanks to their support, his confidence and abilities—especially in math, reading, and comprehension—have grown, and he’s noticeably less anxious about school. A memorable moment was seeing him excited for his tutor Janet Smith to arrive; she makes math fun, patiently helps with assignments, and builds his confidence.

Beyond academics, Janet has supported our family through IEP meetings, easing my anxiety and guiding us with her experience. We are so grateful—she has truly become like family and a friend."– Learning Aid Ohio Account Manager

We are incredibly thankful for tutors like Janet, whose dedication, patience, and encouragement help our learners thrive both in and out of the classroom. Your impact is immeasurable—thank you for all you do!
