As C.S. Lewis wrote, “Friendship is born at the moment when one person says to another, ‘What, you too? I thought I was the only one.’”
At MercyMed Wellness, creating that moment for our patients is at the heart of everything we do. Our physical therapist, Scott, recently traveled to Anaheim, California, to present at the American Physical Therapy Association conference, speaking to more than 15,000 physical therapists about something we don’t talk about enough: the health effects of loneliness.
Isolation doesn’t just affect our mental health; it impacts our physical health, recovery, and overall well-being. While we're really proud of our evidence-based, thoughtful curriculum, our patients often tell us what matters most isn’t the content. It’s the connection.
It’s the conversations before class.
The encouragement during a workout.
The realization across the room: “Oh, you’re going through this too?”
In programs like Six Weeks to Fitness, we see what happens when people show up together. They grow stronger, have better health outcomes, create new friendships and so much more.
At MercyMed, we believe movement is medicine. But connection heals. When people find community, they don’t just get healthier. They discover they’re not alone.
