Join us as we support and celebrate the Chattahoochee Valley's autistic community! Since 2005, we have stood together with families and individuals living with autism, educators, students, politicians, community leaders, and businesses to promote autism acceptance and awareness of our neurodivergent friends and neighbors. Funds raised at the walk will go to support the local programs of the Autism Hope Center, all of which are provided for free. It is with great sorrow that I share our P2P Program Manager, Colleague and Dear Friend Dominic Parker passed away yesterday at his home. He was a great friend and advocate for the blind community. His tireless efforts and dedication to the disability community will be missed here and throughout the state. Services will be held Thursday September 18th at 2pm at the progressive Funeral Home located at 4235 St. Marys Rd. Columbus, GA 31907. Our offices will be closed that day so we all may say goodbye to our Friend.

A wonderful person, colleague and friend passed away yesterday. Shelly Simmons was the Executive Director of the Statewide Independent Living Council of Georgia. During her tenure, we saw substantial growth as I&R services for people with disabilities went Statewide and funds for home modifications and other services increased substantially. Her death will leave an irreplaceable void in the Independent Living Movement, but her life’s work in Independent Living left a strong Statewide Independent Living Council with increased staff poised to continue her work. All of us here at Access 2 Independence will miss her greatly.
