Because hospice isn't scary when you know the facts!!!

🚫Myth - Hospice Care is expensive
⭐Fact - Hospice is a covered Medicare benefit, and most private insurance and Medicaid will also cover services. In addition, medical equipment (ex., oxygen, hospital bed, wheelchair, etc) and prescriptions related to the life-limiting condition are often covered under these benefits. Hospice care is available to all eligible patients regardless of their ability to pay. In fact, hospice care generally saves the patient money overall.

As a hospice team, we believe patients should not have anxiety and the burden of additional costs for themselves or their families. One of the additional benefits of hospice is the support of our Interdisciplinary team. Our social workers are experts in handling logistical and financial needs.

🚫Myth - Becoming a hospice patient means giving up hope!
⭐Facts - Hospice is about helping people enjoy the best quality of life. Hospice patients are encouraged to live life to the fullest. As a hospice team, we never want or ask a patient to give up hope. We want them to experience all of the compassion, empathy, support, and comfort they deserve. Our job is to provide them not only with physical care but also with emotional and spiritual care.

The term "Hospice" can understandably evoke apprehension and anxiety in many people. As a dedicated hospice team, our primary objective is to mitigate these fears and debunk misconceptions. Throughout August, we will be addressing the stigma and misconceptions surrounding hospice care every Monday!

🚫 MYTH: Hospice is a physical location.
⭐ FACT: Hospice care is provided wherever the patient calls home. This includes assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or the patient's own home. In fact, 80% of hospice patients receive care in the comfort of their homes. While inpatient hospice facilities exist, one of the main goals of Hospice care is to provide care in the patient's preferred setting, by preventing hospitalizations and allowing patients to age in place.
