Our very own Dr. Philip Santa-Emma, Mount Carmel Hospice and Palliative Care Medical Director, discussed the benefits of hospice with the Washington Post amidst the conversations surrounding former president Carter's decision to receive hospice care.
"Hospice is going to help me live the very best I can, and even though I have the terminal illness, I know I’m mortal, and I know I’m going to pass away. But between now and then, how do I live the best that I can?"

President Jimmy Carter’s wish to enter hospice care has raised awareness about how families cope with the dying process.

It is with pride that Mount Carmel Hospice shares that one of our Volunteers, John Maurer, was recognized as the Hospice Caregiver of the Year as part of Schoedinger Funeral and Cremation Service's Hospice Caregiver Award Program. Along with this recognition, John was awarded a $1,000 scholarship that was donated to the Mount Carmel Foundation. Please join us in celebrating John in this deserving recognition!

If you are struggling with the loss of a loved one this holiday season, we invite you to attend our annual Grief Around the Holidays interactive workshop. Join our bereavement counselors and other community members as we gather to learn coping mechanisms and prepare for this season.
This year we are also offering an additional, special Grief Around the Holidays session for LGBTQ+ and those who love them.

Mount Carmel Hospice has been recognized by Strategic Healthcare Programs as a "Superior Performer" for their exceptionally high score on the CAHPS Hospice Survey. Mount Carmel Hospice ranked in the top 20% of more than 1,000 hospice providers in the caregiver and family satisfaction score for the 2021 calendar year.

If you are struggling with a loss, we encourage you to join our bereavement counselors as they facilitate our Meaningful Grieving educational support group in August. The six week virtual series will run on Thursday evenings beginning August 25th through September 29th.

Mount Carmel Hospice is proud to announce the excellent result of their June surveys with the Ohio Dept. of Health State Licensure requirements and CMS Condition of Participation. The re-certification surveys reported no findings within Mount Carmel Hospice. The exemplary survey results are a testament to the excellent leadership of the Hospice team and the excellent care the Hospice team provides our patients every day. We are proud to serve central Ohio with the best care.
