While we have enjoyed bringing you gift items made only by artisans in the Deep South, and in the process have discovered some fantastic products, and great companies and people, we have decided to shift our focus. We will still seek to find quality, unique, hand-crafted items from over the United States. Of course, if they are Southern, well, that’s just gravy. Rebellious will achieve its goal in
3 ways:
1) All gift items sold will be purchased from individuals or small businesses, and will be chosen for either their use of repurposed or recycled materials, or if the purchase of their work helps to benefit a charitable organization (some may do both!). Details on the mission of the artist or nature of the beneficiary will always be shared.
2) We will seek to raise awareness for families in the community that are in need of assistance with medical expenses for children. You will be directed to fundraising websites they have created, where you may read their stories and make direct contributions. We will confirm the legitimacy of the request before providing it to you. We hope to provide regular updates as to the status of their condition and progress with donations. We will also direct you to opportunities within the community to participate in charitable or fundraising events.
3) In the spirit that ‘charity begins at home’, we pledge to, at least once a month, or more often as funds permit, use a portion of our profits to commit a RAK – a ‘random act of kindness’. This may be as simple as paying the bill for the person behind you at a drivethru or in front of you in line at a store, or as life-changing as satisfying a utility or medical bill that is causing a family undue hardship. The result is a specific and immediate gift to the recipient. We believe that these opportunities are everywhere, and will be on high alert for them to present themselves. Most ‘acts’ will be committed anonymously, but we will keep you updated as to the nature and frequency. We are the only retailer in the Columbus area for many of these items.
