When Trudi’s family noticed she was trying to vomit but nothing was coming up and her belly looked suddenly bloated, they rushed her to the Emergency room at MedVet Hilliard. Our doctors quickly recognized the signs of gastric dilatation and volvulus (GDV), also known as bloat, a life-threatening condition where the stomach fills with gas and twists on itself.

After Trudi was stabilized, Dr. Sarah Bisgard and our Surgery team stepped in to perform emergency surgery to untwist her stomach and complete a gastropexy, a procedure that secures the stomach in place to help prevent it from twisting again. The collaboration between our Emergency and Surgery teams ensured Trudi received the rapid, coordinated care she needed when every moment mattered.

Two weeks later, Trudi returned to see our Surgery caregivers for her follow-up visit and staple removal, celebrating her recovery in style with a graduation cap. 🎓🐾

Some patients remind us why collaboration matters. 💛

Taters arrived at MedVet Vancouver struggling to breathe and was quickly diagnosed with a high-risk thymoma, a tumor in the chest near her heart and lungs. She was understandably uncomfortable and stressed.

What followed was real collaborative medicine: ER, Oncology, Surgery, and Critical Care all working together to give her the best care possible.

After surgery, Taters was a completely different cat: comfortable, relaxed, and back to her playful self 🐱.

This is the power of multiple veterinary specialties aligning around one patient: better care, smoother recoveries, and happy endings for pets and their families.

Last year, Shadow’s family noticed he was moving slower, keeping his head low, and didn’t seem as eager to follow them around. After visits with his primary veterinarian and specialists, advanced imaging revealed a mass near his neck and upper spine that was pressing on his spinal cord and causing his discomfort.

Because surgery wasn’t a safe option, Shadow was referred to MedVet Norwalk’s Radiation Oncology team. The goal of treatment was to shrink the mass, relieve pressure on his spinal cord, and help him feel like himself again.

After several weeks of daily radiation treatments, Shadow recently graduated from his treatment protocol and he’s already showing great improvement. We’re so proud of this sweet boy and grateful to be part of his journey back to comfort and quality time with his family. 🐾

At the beginning of January, Roux’s family veterinarian diagnosed him with lymphoma, a cancer that affects the lymph nodes and immune system. His family noticed swelling in his back leg. He was limping, not eating, and just wasn’t himself. They brought him to the ER at WestVet Boise, where he was hospitalized.

After meeting with Dr. Kristine Walters from our Medical Oncology team, Roux’s family chose to move forward with chemotherapy. We’re thrilled to share that his treatment is working—his appetite is back, his energy has returned, and he’s even back to enjoying two-mile walks with his favorite people. 🐕

We love seeing Roux light up when he comes in for visits, and it’s safe to say the feeling is mutual. Watching pets regain their spark is why we do what we do. 💛

The Midwest Veterinary Conference was fantastic for our MedVet and VetRad teams!

Great conversations, new connections, plenty of creativity at our booth, and dozens of cozy blankets made for shelter pets. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared a laugh, and spent part of your conference with us.

We’re grateful to be part of a profession that shows up for each other, and for the animals who count on us.

When Millie got into a bottle of joint supplements and swallowed nearly 35–40 capsules, she was rushed to a nearby emergency hospital then transferred to MedVet Atlanta, where our team quickly discovered she was facing a very uncommon toxicity — manganese-induced liver damage that also affected her blood’s ability to clot.

Millie was admitted to the ICU and treated aggressively with IV fluids, plasma transfusions to help her clotting, medications to protect her liver and stomach, and careful decontamination to limit further absorption. Under the care of Critical Care specialist Dr. Samantha Aumann and our ER team, she received around-the-clock monitoring and support for an entire week. There were ups and downs, but Millie kept fighting every step of the way. 💪

Recently, at her final weekly recheck, our team confirmed that her lab work is steadily improving and expects her to make a full recovery! We’re so proud of this resilient girl and so grateful her family acted quickly.

When 3-year-old JJ got into lilies at home, his family rushed him to the ER at MedVet Hilliard, and their quick action made all the difference. Lilies are extremely toxic to cats and can cause sudden kidney failure, even in small amounts.

Our team safely induced vomiting and recovered several lily petals, then JJ stayed with us for two days while Drs. Mikaela Disbennett and James Constantino monitored him closely. He received IV fluids to protect his kidneys and supportive care to keep him feeling his best. Thankfully, his kidney values remained stable, and this sweet boy is now back home with his loving family. 🐱

Lilies may be beautiful, but they can be life-threatening for cats. If you have a feline friend at home, it’s safest to keep lilies completely out of reach or better yet, out of the house altogether.
