When Trudi’s family noticed she was trying to vomit but nothing was coming up and her belly looked suddenly bloated, they rushed her to the Emergency room at MedVet Hilliard. Our doctors quickly recognized the signs of gastric dilatation and volvulus (GDV), also known as bloat, a life-threatening condition where the stomach fills with gas and twists on itself.
After Trudi was stabilized, Dr. Sarah Bisgard and our Surgery team stepped in to perform emergency surgery to untwist her stomach and complete a gastropexy, a procedure that secures the stomach in place to help prevent it from twisting again. The collaboration between our Emergency and Surgery teams ensured Trudi received the rapid, coordinated care she needed when every moment mattered.
Two weeks later, Trudi returned to see our Surgery caregivers for her follow-up visit and staple removal, celebrating her recovery in style with a graduation cap. 🎓🐾
