Put smoke alarms in your home and check them often to help keep your family safe from fire. Make a plan with two ways out of every room, choose a meeting place outside, and practice it so everyone knows what to do. If a fire happens, crawl under the smoke, get out fast, stay outside, and call 911 for help.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a gas you cannot see or smell, but it can make people very sick and can even cause death. It comes from things that burn fuel, like cars, heaters, generators, and grills. Kids are at higher risk because they breathe faster and take in more of the gas. To keep your family safe, put carbon monoxide alarms on every level of your home, check them often, and never use things like generators, grills, or cars in the garage or inside the house.

Bundle up to stay safe! Frostbite can happen quickly when children are exposed to very cold and windy weather. This wind chill chart shows how wind makes the air feel colder and how lower wind chill temperatures increase the risk of frostbite in a shorter amount of time.

Space heaters can help keep your home warm, but they must be used safely around children. Keep heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn, plug them straight into the wall, never use an extension cord, and turn them off when you leave the room or go to sleep. Choose a heater made for indoor use that turns off by itself if it gets too hot or tips over.

For routine questions, chronic concerns, and medication refills, call our office during regular office hours. Northside Pediatrics makes every effort to see sick children on the same day parents call. However, appointments for routine check-ups and physicals need to be made in well in advance.

Appointments For an appointment, please call 812-379-9524

After Hours A pediatrician is available whenever the office is closed for emergencies and questions that cannot wait until normal office hours. Call the hospital operator at 812-379-4441 and they will page the doctor on-call. Routine refills or questions about chronic problems cannot be answered after hours. Pediatric nurses sometimes assist us in responding to your needs after hours. These nurses are extremely proficient in answering questions on fevers and common childhood illnesses.
