Department of Speech & Hearing Science at Ohio State We take great pride in preparing the next generation of leaders. Individuals are also evaluated for hearing loss, auditory processing disorders and tinnitus.

At The Ohio State University, our department is dedicated to advancing the study of human
communication through innovative research, clinical education, and community
engagement. The Clinic professionals perform assessments and intervention for individuals with speech and hearing disorders. Diagnostic testing and treatment for articulation, language, literacy, fluency and memory are administered. The fitting of hearing aids and assistive listening devises is also performed through the Clinic.

Kiersten Spires, 3rd year AuD student, recently attended the Disability Policy Seminar in Washington, D.C.🏛️, as a LEND Trainee. Through this experience, she engaged in professional development focused on federal disability policy and helped educate Congressional offices on the importance of accessible hearing and communication services. We’re proud to see our students growing as clinicians, leaders, and advocates!

Congratulations, Sophie Nichols, 2026 CAPSCD PhD Scholarship Award recipient!

Sophie is currently pursuing a PhD in Speech and Hearing Science. Her research interests include the linkage between language, mental health and offending behaviors, as well as long term outcomes of children with cognitive-communication disorders.

This week is Spring Break for Ohio State; the clinic will operate with reduced hours and limited personnel.

As a reminder, appointments are always required. However, during spring break, walk‑in visits cannot be accommodated, and appointments will be scheduled for the following week when full clinic operations resume. Our office staff remain available by phone and email for scheduling and questions. Thank you for your understanding!

Huge shoutout to Dr. Kris Bowdrie and Dr. Rachael Holt for their fantastic presentation at the American Auditory Society!
Their talk, “Hearing Aid Benefit in Adults: Interactions Between Temperament and Self‑Efficacy,” explored how personal characteristics shape hearing aid outcomes.

And an extra round of applause for Kris, who received an Early Career Investigator Travel Award for this research!
