Congratulations, Rachel and Quinn!

A huge shout-out to our second-year MA SLP students in the Department of Speech & Hearing Science, Rachel Kickbush and Quinn Baumgartner, for earning the Steve's Way Scholarship!
Thanks to the generosity of Tom Meadows, they will be able to expand their expertise in assistive technology and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) to help others.
We're so proud of you both!

We are helping to recruit subjects for a survey study to address questions related to use of hearing aids for people with normal to near normal hearing. Your help would be much appreciated. Audiologists, feel free to take the survey and share it with your colleagues and/or on your social media. Thanks for your consideration...sorry for the post that it's a little messy...posting was a bit stubborn!

Study Purpose

We are conducting research to better understand how audiologists approach amplification decisions for adults who present with clinically normal or near-normal pure-tone hearing thresholds. This population represents a growing area of clinical interest, and your expertise and experience are valuable to advancing our understanding of best practices.

What We are Investigating

Your participation would help us explore:

· How frequently audiologists recommend and fit amplification for adults with normal or near-normal audiometric thresholds

· The primary patient complaints and clinical criteria that guide these decisions

· Diagnostic tools and assessment approaches used with this population

· Device types, fitting strategies, and outcome measures employed

· Clinician perceptions of treatment benefit, usage patterns, and return rates

· Barriers and facilitators to care, along with desired resources for improved decision-making

Your Participation

Participation involves completing a comprehensive survey about your clinical practices, decision-making processes, and experiences with this patient population. The survey is designed to be completed at your convenience and should take approximately 10 minutes. Your responses will remain completely confidential, and all data will be de-identified for analysis and reporting purposes. Participation is entirely voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time.

Voluntary Consent

By participating in this survey, you acknowledge that:

· You have read and understand the information provided about this research study

· Your participation is completely voluntary and you may withdraw at any time

· Your responses will be kept confidential and de-identified

· You understand the purpose of the study and what your participation involves

· You are 18 years of age or older and a licensed audiologist

· You consent to participate in this research

Next Steps

If you agree to participate and provide your voluntary consent as outlined above, please access the survey link. Survey Link: https://towson.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4N1INlW17OTRcY6

If you have questions about the study before deciding to participate, please contact the research team directly at Alyssa.j.Davidson.civ@health.mil. I would be happy to provide additional information about the research or participation process.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to contribute to our profession’s knowledge base. Your clinical expertise and insights are invaluable to this important research.

Researchers from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign are studying how to enhance music experiences for people who are d/Deaf or hard-of-hearing. They are interested in understanding DHH people’s experience with a music-related mobile application. You are invited to participate in a one-week diary study where you will try out an app/device to help them understand your experiences with music. After the diary study, you will participate in a follow-up interview about your experience that should take no more than 1 hour. For compensation, you will receive $15 for the diary study and $25 for the 1 hour interview. Your anonymous quotes will be used in future publications and presentations. This research will be conducted following the guidelines and policies of University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s Institutional Review Board.
