Not everyone experiences love at first sight with their baby.

Especially if you had a traumatic delivery. Give yourself, your partner, and your baby some grace and time to adjust.

A doula supports you.
A student midwife witnesses you.

In this clip from the Perinatal Roundtable, Addie Vasquez explains the difference between being hands-on physical and emotional support as a doula and stepping back to monitor and appreciate the raw beauty of birth as a student midwife.

Both roles matter.
Both serve families in different ways.

Understanding the difference can help you decide what kind of support feels right for you.

Full conversation now live on YouTube.
If you're pregnant or postpartum and rebuilding physically too, my free 8-minute core & pelvic floor workshop is available now.

I'm so excited to announce the very first episode of the Perinatal Roundtable — a conversation series about pregnancy, birth, and postpartum for mothers.

In this episode, I sit down with Addie Vasquez — certified birth doula, student midwife, and Director of Operations at Moby Nurses, Inc. — to talk about what truly prepares women for birth and the early postpartum season.

We discuss:

• The difference between a doula and a midwife
• What actually leads to better birth outcomes
• The BRAIN decision-making tool for overwhelmed parents
• Postpartum mental health and recognizing when you need support
• Letting go of expectations in the newborn phase
• Building systems and teamwork with your partner
• Why nutrition and movement matter more than you think

Addie also shares a vulnerable part of their own postpartum journey and how partner support made a powerful difference.

If you are pregnant, recently postpartum, or supporting someone who is — this conversation is for you.

"You sure about that??" 🤔🏃‍♀️

"Don't do crunches." "Don't lift more than the baby." "Don't run until you're 6 months out."

While these suggestions come from a place of safety, they often leave moms feeling paralyzed and weak. As a Pelvic PT, I’m here to tell you: Everything is a progression.

It’s not about the exercise itself; it’s about how your "core canister" handles the load. ✅ Can you breathe through the movement? ✅ Is your pelvic floor coordinating with your diaphragm? ✅ Do you have the stability to manage the pressure?

If the answer is "not yet," we don't ban the exercise—we train for it!

Stop living in fear of your workouts. ✨ Watch my free workshop "The Pelvic Floor Check-In" to learn how to manage pressure like a pro.

As a pelvic floor PT, it is a bit of a pet peeve to hear other professionals tell postpartum individuals that symptoms like leakage are 'normal'.

That is absolutely false. When professionals say something is 'normal', what they are really saying is 'you are just going to have to live with it'. Pelvic floor dysfunction in postpartum is common, meaning a large percentage of individuals experience that disfunction. It is common, and fixable. With a combination of pelvic floor physical therapy, exercise, and new strategies for movement, most individuals can completely recover postpartum.

Common not Normal.

Society doesn’t live in your body. YOU do. ✨

We live in a world that tries to define a "beautiful" postpartum body by how quickly it returns to its pre-baby shape. But I want to offer a different definition.

Beauty is a core that feels stable when you lift your toddler. Beauty is the confidence to go for a run without worrying about leakage. Beauty is a body that communicates its needs, and a woman who knows how to listen to them.

If you’ve been feeling "disconnected" from your body because of pelvic pain, DRA, or leakage, please hear this: Your beauty isn't defined by a gap in your abs or a number on a scale. It’s defined by your strength, your resilience, and your journey.
