💪 Start the New Year off strong: Join ONA today! 🤝 https://ohnurses.org/membership/
We can change this narrative together. Speak up, share your story, support your coworkers, and help push hospitals to prioritize staff safety.

🚨 Workplace violence in healthcare is out of control and far too often leaves health professionals with serious, life-altering injuries.

What other employer would allow their staff to be choked, stabbed, targeted with weaponized bodily fluids, or thrown against walls… without consequences⁉ Too many nurses and health professionals suffer fractures, brain injuries, PTSD, and even death.

💬 Social share prompts: “I stand with healthcare workers. ” | “Safe staff = safe patients. Join the movement! ” | “Workplace violence is NOT part of the job. ”

🎅❌ Naughty List, Locked In. ❌🎅

Hospital executives will forever stay on the naughty list until they choose what actually matters:
the safety of patients, nurses, and health professionals.

Safe staffing.
Safe workplaces.
Real accountability.

Until then — no excuses, no absolution.

12/25/2025

As the holiday season arrives, we want to speak directly to the nurses and health professionals spending these days away from their families and friends—being present for patients, responding to crises, and providing compassionate care every moment they are needed. We also want to acknowledge the friends and loved ones who sacrifice time together, offer support, and carry extra weight at home so this care can happen. Your dedication, skill, and professionalism do not go unnoticed, and we are deeply grateful.

This year, ONA members stood shoulder to shoulder to fight for safe staffing, confront workplace violence, and defend our hospitals as true sanctuary spaces—places where patients receive care with dignity and without regard to race, religion, immigration status, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, or any other characteristic, and where nurses and health professionals are free from threats, harassment, and violence on the job. Everyone deserves care. Every healthcare worker deserves safety.

As we enter the new year, our commitment is absolute. ONA will stand strong as a union, advocate boldly for nurses and health professionals, and demand accountability from anyone who puts profits, politics, or complacency ahead of patient care and worker safety. We do this not only for nurses and health professionals but also for the patients, families, and communities who depend on safe, accessible, and compassionate care every day.

To all who are working through the holidays—and to those who support them—and to the patients and communities we are honored to serve: thank you. You are seen. You are valued. And you are never alone in this fight.

We will not accept the broken status quo. And to the hospital executives who put patients, nurses, and health professionals in harm’s way: may your stockings be full of coal—and your futures full of enforceable staffing regulations.

Wishing you a safe holiday season and a strong, determined new year.

Rick Lucas, BSN, RN, CCRN, President & Executive Director and Ohio Nurses Association Board of Directors

💙 During this holiday season, which can be especially difficult for many, we want to pause and remind our health professionals that you are not alone.

In healthcare, you give so much of yourself: long hours, emotional moments, and the weight that isn’t always visible. Stress, exhaustion, and burnout are real, and the holidays can intensify those feelings. But you don’t have to face them alone.

🫂 A small act can make a big difference. A quick message, a genuine check-in, or a simple “I’m here for you” can lift someone’s day more than you know.
