Have you heard of hypermobility?
I first learned of hypermobility spectrum disorder snd Ehlers Danlos Syndrome in 2014. I was having severe thumb pain and consistently dislocating my thumb. At the time I was practicing as a Hand Therapist and I was connected with an amazing comspang, , who create sterling silver splints for various hand challenges. Once I started wearing my splint, my thumb was no longer able to go into that hyperextended position and my pain gradually improved. I immediately felt a connect with these splints and luckily for me they were looking for someone to support them at the conferences they attend for Ehlers Danlos. Since then I have been working with both and silver ring splints each year and learning more and more about how to support this diagnosis.
I am so passionate about so many things, but something they continues to motivate me is assisting people in learning more about their bodies, supporting their bodies and learning tools to keep moving towards joy. I’m finding more and more connections in my Craniosacral work with EDS and am looking forward to expanding once again into the hand therapy space in regard to hypermobility!
Hypermobility can affect any joint in the body. It can present as mild or severe. It can be accompanied with pain or be painless. It can create challenges in feeling stable and finding balance.
