We are ready to serve you and care for you as you navigate your illnesses. How do Clinical Trials work? Lifesaving and life-changing pharmaceutical therapies, including medicines and treatments, have to be tested on humans typically in three phases. This is after years of research and testing in laboratories around the world. Phase 1 is a relatively small sample size, meaning that it's hundreds of
people instead of thousands, are tested on volunteers to determine the safety of the medication. Over 90% of clinical trials don't pass through Phase 1 onto Phase 2. ClinOhio generally does not administer Phase 1 studies. Phase 2, a larger study, means that the medication was deemed safe by all parties and the medication is one of the less than 10% of drugs that make it to Phase 2. During this phase, medications are tested for efficacy, meaning how well they work, along with a continuing focus on safety. The treatment is tested on patients that are suffering from the condition, and often they've run out of options for treatments that work. During the study time, our patients get regular medical care related to the condition at no charge, and they are often getting a better standard of care by seeing a doctor more often. When a clinical trial gets to Phase 3, all governing bodies such as the FDA have determined that the drugs are both safe and effective in smaller groups of people. The majority of ClinOhio's studies are Phase 3 trials. During Phase 3, trials get much larger and they are monitored for both safety and effectiveness. The researchers are working to develop proper dosages, study side effects, and more. But patients who have volunteered for the study are also getting medications for free, medical care related to this condition for free, and they are being compensated for their time.
