It's Neurodiversity Celebration Week! 🌈 ♾️
Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a worldwide initiative that challenges misconceptions, stereotypes, and stigma surrounding neurological differences.
According to the official NCW website, this week "aims to transform how neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported... [recognizing] the many skills and talents of neurodivergent individuals, while creating more inclusive and equitable cultures that celebrate differences and empower every individual."
The term “neurodivergent” is a label people may use to describe themselves when they have a condition that affects how they think, learn, process information, or engage with the world. Common conditions among those who identify as neurodivergent include autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and more.
Neurodivergence itself is not a diagnosis, and not everyone with a diagnosed condition or learning disability considers themselves to be neurodivergent. Rather, it is an umbrella term that people may use to refer to the unique ways their brains work.
"Neurodiversity" is the belief that neurological differences are a strength. When we allow neurodivergent individuals to thrive in the workplace, at school, and in our community, we invite a wide variety of perspectives, ideas, strategies, and more.
Let's celebrate neurodiversity this week and every week!
