👋 Meet Layton.

Late in his spring club soccer season, Layton collided knee-to-knee with another player while trying to save a ball from going out of bounds. He knew immediately something was wrong. His high school athletic trainer suspected an ACL tear and referred him to Dr. Kevin Klingele, who confirmed the diagnosis.

Layton shares, "Learning I’d miss my fall high school soccer season and possibly hockey in the winter was devastating."

Dr. Klingele performed reconstructive ACL surgery and Layton began a structured rehab program shortly after. He continues, "Recovery was tough. There were days I felt discouraged and unsure if I’d ever play at the same level again. The support from the Sports Medicine Team at Nationwide Children’s Hospital made all the difference. They helped me set goals, celebrated progress and kept me motivated while making sure I didn’t rush the process. They didn’t just help me heal physically, they helped rebuild my confidence."

Now Layton is back on the soccer field and excited for another hockey season! "I’m stronger, smarter and more intentional about how I train. I’m incredibly grateful for the care and dedication from Dr. Klingele and the entire Sports Medicine Team at Nationwide Children’s who helped me get here."

Our beloved therapy dog, Jax, turned another year older this month, and we celebrated with tail wags, treats and lots of love at the hospital. He brings comfort, joy and healing to everyone he meets. On his special day, we got to return the favor! Happy birthday, Jax!🎉

🦋 We are proud to share that Gail E. Besner, MD, chief of pediatric surgery at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, was elected to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM)!

Election to NAM is considered one of the highest honors in the field of medicine and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service.

New members are elected by current members through a process that recognizes individuals who have made major contributions to the advancement of the medical sciences, health care and public health. NAM recognized Dr. Besner for her incredible work in preventing necrotizing enterocolitis.
