Our Story

Samoyeds...The breed that carries the Christmas spirit throughout the year. At age 6, I was introduced to the world of samoyeds. By age 8, I was showing and age 12 whelping puppies. In the last 36 years, I’ve had the pleasure to show, breed and raise samoyeds so others may see and enjoy this amazing breed. My mother, myself and now my daughter makes 3 generations of involvement with samoyeds. Over the years, we’ve produced many champions, titled in agility, titled in lure coursing, earned therapy titles and have had the honor of judging sweepstakes. Samoyeds will forever have a place in our home.

Border Terriers came into the picture about 8 years ago when I was searching for a smaller second breed that required minimal grooming. I’ve always been a fan of terriers and the border terriers fit my requirements perfectly. They are a people oriented, hearty breed with a lot of love to give. Borders make great companion dogs. In the yard, they are terriers. Inside, they are lap dogs. This was a great addition to our family. Since starting with borders, we’ve produced multiple champions and grand champions.

My thoughts on breeding... I breed to continue my bloodline and to provide puppies for those wanting to add a 4 legged member to their family. Ethical breeding is critical to providing healthy, sound puppies. There are many responsibilities to providing puppies. I break it down into 3 categories: physical health, social/emotional health and environment. Physical health requires research of the bloodlines and health certifications to prevent transmitting genetic issues. My puppies are examined 3 times by a veterinarian before going to their homes. They have their first 2 sets of puppy vaccines along with micro-chipping, too. Social and emotional health begins as puppies. The first 2-3 weeks the puppies are raised in our bedroom where they bond with their mom. Then, between 3-4 weeks they are moved to our family room where they are well socialized with both people and pets. They have their mom and siblings to provide support while they explore everything new in their world. This builds confidence and security in the pups. The third component is environment. This goes along with social development because we try to expose the puppies to various people, pets, sights and sounds in the environment. With mom by their side, they build confidence. Researching potential puppy homes to ensure a good fit is another responsibility. Potential puppy owners must understand the commitment, time and energy of owning a dog. Positive training and exercise for puppies are critical along with caring for a dog over the next 12-16 years. When I accept a puppy owner, I accept being in a relationship with the puppy owner for the lifetime of the dog so we (the puppy, the owner and I) must be a good fit. To ensure a good fit, we work a lot with our puppies to identify their personalities and figure out which puppy would work best with the potential puppy owners. For example, if a puppy is going to a home with another dog, I will look for a puppy that plays well with the others. In the end, as a breeder, it is my responsibility to ensure the puppies with a good life and their homes with a healthy, sound puppy.

Finally, I believe all dogs deserve a good loving home, regardless of the breed or mix. If someone is considering a rescue, then please, help the rescue dog. They need homes more than my pups. My pups will eventually find a home and until then, they will always have a place in my home.
