Ashtanga Yoga Zoom

Ashtanga Yoga Zoom Traditional Ashtanga Yoga it just happens to be online In typical yoga classes, we often never really meet the person practicing next to us.

At Ashtanga Yoga Columbus (AYC), we believe so deeply in the transformative nature of the Ashtanga method that we created a space solely dedicated to exploring the benefits of the practice. With this intention, Taylor founded the Mysore program in 2012 to provide a community where students could learn Ashtanga yoga as it’s still traditionally taught in Mysore, India. Our vision has always included

a desire to make the yoga practice accessible to all by creating an environment conducive to growth for different body types, identities, and experiences; including those in recovery from addiction. We believe whether or not individuals are struggling with barriers in their asana practice or in other areas of their life, they deserve a place to feel safe and supported in their journey of self-exploration. The community at AYC is built around a group of dedicated students seeking to improve their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being through the practice of Ashtanga yoga. However, at AYC, we offer the opportunity to learn the physical practice of yoga while socializing, engaging in community outreach, and diving deeper into the other limbs of Ashtanga. We offer ongoing teaching in chanting, yogic philosophy, pranayama, and meditation as well as asana and Ayurvedic workshops throughout the year.

Tuesday is a full moon - take rest! Sharing the wisdom of for more information:

The Full Moon lunar eclipse will be in Purva Bhadrapada, a degree of sidereal Pisces meaning “the former one with lucky feet.” Its symbol is the front legs of the funeral cot, letting us know this is a eclipse is connected to endings: the conscious and empowering ones, the ones that are hard to do but we must embrace, the ones we are ready to release from and transcend. The funeral pyre energy tells us we must let go of what is complete, that renewal, rebirth and purification can only come when we face the ending with courage and the ability to release and let go.

Governed by Jupiter, the planet of opportunity, authority and spirituality, Purva Bhadrapada is a powerful Vedic sign dedicated to walking a higher path, whose shakti is called “yajamana udyamana”: the power to spiritually elevate oneself through purification and devotional practice. This sign seeks knowledge and wisdom, and understands that the spiritual path requires leaning into difficulty and discomfort in order to grow — and so it is quite skilled at burning off karmas and limiting beliefs.

The symbols and deity of this Full Moon offer us insight and encouragement. One symbol is a man with two faces, showing us we stand on the threshold of two worlds, of two realms, of two possible realities. The deity Aja Ekapada, the one footed goat (also depicted as a unicorn), is said to be a form of Rudra the god of storms, telling us we can weather the storm – and that we sometimes need to be mindful of the storms we are part of. It has internal strength to persevere, regardless of adversity. Its name translates as “a ray of light,” reminding us of the silver lining we hold onto in challenging times.

There is more to the practice than traditional expression of asanas.

We sometimes make this practice harder than it needs to be - fixating on a traditional expression instead of the lesson that’s unfolding before us.

There is nothing wrong with curiousity and study, of growth and learning, but when achieving a physical form becomes the priority over all else, perhaps we are missing the more important larger picture.

What if we let consistency on the mat guide the development of our practice?
