Flu season is right around the corner, and St. Francis-Emory Healthcare recommends getting the annual flu vaccine. We love seeing you, but we’d much rather have you visit for a healthy check-up rather than get admitted to our hospital sick and weakened with the flu.

Check out the informational article below and make an appointment to get vaccinated to protect yourself and the ones you love.

Why Getting Your Flu Shot Matters Sep 03, 2025   According to the National Institutes of Health, seasonal influenza (the flu) is responsible for more than 36,000 deaths and 200,000 hospitalizations in the U.S. each year. The road back to full health for our patients is many times helped along by therapists, each with a unique and distinctive role in the healing journey.

Our Director of Inpatient Rehabilitation Kim Green and Director of Outpatient Therapy at St. Francis Rehabilitation Bryce Gaunt joined WTVM News Leader 9 Wellness Wednesday to discuss all things rehab. Our therapists might help you recover a range of motion, help you better ambulate (or get around), help with getting your voice back and even help with making simple everyday tasks a little bit easier.

This September, we recognize Sepsis Awareness Month—a time to spread knowledge that can save lives. If you or a loved one has an infection and begins showing symptoms like rapid heartbeat, fever, extreme discomfort, confusion, shortness of breath, and extreme pain it could be a very serious medical condition that requires immediate care.

Sepsis occurs when your immune system has a dangerous reaction to an infection. It causes extensive inflammation throughout your body that can lead to tissue damage, organ failure and even death. Many different kinds of infections can trigger sepsis, which is a medical emergency.

If you suspect sepsis, call your doctor or seek emergency care immediately. Our Emergency Room team is available to help any time of the day or night:

For an amazing 75 years, St. Francis-Emory Healthcare has forged lasting partnerships within the communities we serve. None brighter and more luminous than our ongoing shared commitment with Columbus Technical College – as we work together to shape the next generation of healthcare workers in Georgia, Alabama and beyond.

CTC President Martha Ann Todd, who also serves as our St. Francis Board of Trustees Chair, took time to reflect on the tremendous gains her students make with every rotation and clinical opportunity within our halls.

Inspired by purpose, we’re shaping the heart of healthcare.

Congratulations to our own Justin Fogt, Director of Cardiac Nursing Services, who has been named St. Francis-Emory Healthcare’s Monarch Caring and Community Award winner for 2025.

The Monarch Award recognizes exceptional, highly skilled caregivers who consistently go above and beyond to deliver excellent patient care and to elevate the patient experience. They are dedicated to supporting their colleagues and their communities, and in everything they do, they exemplify ScionHealth’s values: Valuing Every Voice, Showing Courage, and Leaning into New Ideas. With his local recognition, Fogt is now eligible for the ScionHealth system-wide Monarch Award, which will be announced later this year.

An excerpt from Fogt’s nomination:

“Justin tells his staff every day that the patient laying in that bed is not just a room number, they are someone's mom, dad or loved one. He challenges his staff every day to find a connection with that patient (where they go to church, where they live, where they go or went to school). He always says in our tight-knit community, everyone can find a connection point. And from there, an opening to help folks start the healing process.”

We want to also congratulate our 2025 Monarch Finalists and our 2024 winner:
• Mitch Patel, Critical Care Pharmacist (2024 Monarch Winner)
• Angela Dobbins, Nursing Director 2-South
• AJ Ellison, Lead Clinical Pharmacist
• Jarrell King, Executive Assistant and Volunteer Services
• Walter Phillips Jr., Manager of Chaplain Services
