Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your nervous system controls every cell, tissue, organ and system in your body. Your nervous system consists of your brain, spinal cord and millions of nerves. Your brain is protected by the skull, your spinal cord, and by the 24 moving bones of the spine. Many everyday activities can cause these spinal bones to lose their normal position or motion, which can lead to extreme discomfort and a variety of serious outcomes.
Specific chiropractic adjustments will help return individual spinal bones to their proper motion and position and relieve pain and any discomfort. A faint popping sound may occur with an adjustment. This sound is created by the shifting of gas and fluids in the joint, which is completely normal. Because nerves are present in all parts of you body, chiropractic adjustments of the knees, elbows, ankles, shoulders and other areas may give relief to associated pains. Other procedures may be suggested to help reduce inflammation, provide relief or enhance the healing process. These may include interferential therapy, ultrasound, moist heat or cold packs.
Chiropractic care is much safer than aspirin, muscle relaxers and back surgery. Some patients get results quickly, while others may take longer. Chiropractic care is safe and effective for all ages from infants to the elderly. Many patients get adjusted on a regular basis as preventative wellness care. Professional athletes such as Tiger Woods, Jerry Rice, Wade Boggs, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Evander Holyfield, just to name a few, receive chiropractic care on a regular basis. Most Olympic and professional teams have an on-staff chiropractor as well as other healthcare providers.
