Obituary For Marie - Spooner
Marie Spooner

January 17, 1921 - May 9, 2026

Marie Spooner, a beloved longtime resident of Colusa County whose kindness, generosity, and enduring spirit touched generations of family, friends, and neighbors, passed away peacefully after a life richly and fully lived. She celebrated her 105th birthday surrounded by loved ones earlier this year.

Born on January 17, 1921, in Willows, California, Marie was raised on her parents’ dairy farm in Afton, by Barney and Polly Alves. Deeply rooted in the Portuguese Catholic community of the Central Valley, she carried throughout her life the values of faith, hard work, hospitality, and devotion to family.

Marie attended Princeton High School and, at age 17, was crowned Queen of Princeton Portuguese Festa- an honor she fondly remembered as one of the highlights of her youth.

She later married John Azevedo (Monica), Sara George (David). After John’s passing, Marie continued running the ranch for a decade with remarkable strength and determination. She later married Chester Spooner and moved to Williams in 1997, where she continued building lasting friendships and deep community ties.

Marie was well known throughout Williams and the surrounding communities for her warm heart and tireless work ethic. She spent two decades working at Fouch’s Drug and remained an active member of Sacred Heart Parish for more than 80 years. She was especially cherished for her homemade apple pies, which became legendary at local fundraisers and were often among the most sought-after auction items.

To know Marie was to experience genuine kindness, quiet resilience, and unwavering generosity. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, faith, perseverance, and love that will continue through the many lives she influenced over more than a century.

Marie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children, extended family, friends, parish community, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Her life was truly a life well lived.

Services will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Maxwell June 11, 2026. Rosary at 10:30am and mass at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Maxwell Cemetery. Obituary For Charles Conrad Geyer
Charles Conrad Geyer, 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Arbuckle, California, on May 7, 2026.

Charles was born on May 31, 1936, in Los Angeles, California, to Karl Fredrick Geyer and Leo Beth (Wyer) Geyer. During World War II, his father worked in a shipyard in Alameda before the family settled in Arbuckle, eventually making their home on 7th Street. Charles attended school in Arbuckle, graduated from Pierce High School, and proudly carried on his family’s legacy as a second-generation graduate of Pierce High.

On August 13, 1955, Charles married the love of his life, Doris Herber. Together they built a loving family and shared many wonderful years together until Doris’s passing in 2019.

Charles and Doris were blessed with three children: Michael Geyer (Joni), Marjorie Martinez (Gene), and Andrew Geyer (Carol). He was a proud grandfather to Bobby, Lucy, and Betsy Martinez; Gus, Maggie, Ellie, Jake, Ben, and Molly Geyer; and a cherished great-grandfather to 17 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.

Charles will be remembered for his generosity, vision, and dedication to the Arbuckle community. As owner of Alsco Geyer Irrigation and Advanced Irrigation Rental for more than 45 years, he earned deep respect throughout the irrigation industry. He was one of the founding members of the California Ag Irrigation Association (CAIA), helping establish design certification standards, contractor licensing, and manufacturing warranty standards.

In 2000, Charles opened Arbuckle’s first Ace Hardware store. He later expanded with additional Ace Hardware locations in Willows and Red Bluff, continuing his commitment to supporting the surrounding communities.

A lifelong advocate for Arbuckle, Charles devoted countless hours and resources to improving the town he loved. He served with the Arbuckle Fire Department from 1958 to 1981 and was a past president and member of the Arbuckle Golf Club. He was also a member of the Woodland Elks Lodge #1299, the Yolo Flyers Club, and the Colusa Flying Club. Charles was a founding member of the Arbuckle Revitalization Project and the LaVanche Hursh Memorial Park project. One of his greatest passions was helping keep the Arbuckle Golf Club open and thriving for future generations.

Charles loved golfing, traveling, playing cards with friends, and flying. He especially enjoyed loading up the airplane with golf clubs and friends to play courses near and far. He was an enthusiastic supporter of local athletes and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at their sporting events. He was also a devoted fan of the San Francisco Giants, Sacramento Kings, and San Francisco 49ers.

Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris Geyer; his parents, Karl and Leo Beth Geyer; and his brother, Chester Geyer; and his daughter-in-law, Joni Geyer.

He is survived by his sister, Susie Morris (Ron); his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and many dear friends and extended family members whose lives were touched by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering community spirit.

The family asks that memorial donations in Charles’s honor be made to the Arbuckle Golf Club, P.O. Box 246, Arbuckle, CA 95912, or to a charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Charter’s Barn, 6000 Hillgate Road, Arbuckle, California.

Obituary For Lyle Wayne Charter
Lyle Wayne Charter was born May 4, 1932, in Arbuckle, CA to Halbert D. and Marie A. (Kull) Charter. Known for his incomparable quick wit, countless individuals knew him as the "Cowboy Poet Laureate of Colusa County." Many say he was born "100 years too late" – but this life-long, hardworking almond, olive, and walnut farmer was also an authentic muleskinner, who lived life to the fullest, and leaves behind a lasting legacy. Lyle died peacefully April 17, 2026, after a brief illness.

His second home was anywhere there was a set of mountains where he could take a pack string of mules and a fly-fishing rod. He and his wife of nearly 60 years, Laurie, spent many years volunteering with the California Fish and Wildlife Service and the Back Country Horsemen of California to plant trout in high-country lakes. Other organizations who received his valuable time include the Free and Accepted Masons - Colusa Lodge No. 240, the Arbuckle Community Church, and the Arbuckle 4-H Club.

Lyle knew no strangers and would strike up conversations with anyone. He could educate them on everything from WWII history to how to shoe a horse or recite the most side-splittingly funny cowboy poem – and as his body became weak, his mind remained very sound. Though he only had a high school education (and if asked where he went to college, he would tell you, "the School of Hard Knocks"), Lyle was a gifted craftsman and could fabricate the most complex projects, including farm equipment and tools, wagons for mules and horses to pull, horse trailers, or spurs, bits and bridals, rarely even putting the plans down on paper. These talents were passed down through multiple generations of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Lyle was preceded in death by his brother Raymond Charter, sister-in-law Mary (Young) Charter, and his granddaughter Holly Moorhead. He leaves behind his wife, Laurie, daughter Christine Charter Moorhead, son Jeffrey (Debbie) Charter, son Erick Charter, and daughter Kate (Cecil) Smith, as well as sisters Evelyn Jansen and Lorraine Davis. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was truly a devoted family man.

The last goodbye's the hardest one to say ... this is where the cowboy rides away. Happy trails, cowboy!

Graveside services will take place at the Arbuckle Cemetery on April 29, 2026 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Arbuckle Fire Department, the Arbuckle Community Church, or the charity of your choice.

Obituary For Alan Bradford Dell
Al was larger (and louder) than life with his boisterous voice and quick wit. He enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, camping, bonfires, movies, gardening, painting and spending time with friends laughing at (and with) others

Born in Chico to Betty Jean and Bradford Benjamin Dell, he moved to Vallejo, CA in 1966. At 16 years old in 1968, he started working at Mare Island under a program that helped him obtain his GED and provided him with training as an Electrician, working as a civilian for the Navy in the shipyard. He worked on the crew of the infamous submarine USS Guitarro that sank in the bay pier side during initial testing, this drew national attention and they won the Flying Fickle Finger of Fate award on the TV show Laugh In. Al worked on Mare Island until retiring in 1993. Upon retirement, he moved to Princeton and managed the trailer court for several years. Being caretaker of the trailer court allowed him to spend time duck hunting and on the Sacramento River fishing, while also being unofficial mayor of the bonfire, as his home was right in the middle of the trailer court where several sportsmen came and stayed

for the season.

Al had 3 wives and celebrated 4 marriages, marrying one wife twice. He married his high school sweetheart (Hazel in 1968) and had a son, Richard Alan Dell. Al came into this authors life when he relocated to Princeton and met the authors grandmother, making Jane Dell his 4th wife. They were friends long before they got married in 2002 and kept separate homes in Princeton up until only about 6 years ago, which both joked was the secret of a happy marriage.

Al enjoyed gardening and set up a huge garden that supplied the whole town with vegetables. Al was a meticulous note taker; he took tangible notes on neon colored 3x5 cards about everything and was very organized. His notes ranged from his health stats, his to-do lists, to his painting; he cataloged every painting he finished with the date finished, the material used, the awards received, and who he gifted it to. He also had them numbered in chronological order. Al enjoyed staying curious his whole life through, he was a voracious reader and was always learning something new.

Al is survived by his son, stepdaughter Tina (Ben) Gordon, stepson Joe (Audrey) Young, grandchildren Courtney Jimenez and Richard Dell Jr, and 3 great grandchildren, along with his brothers Dan Hogan and Terry Kerp, and sister Chrisy Frickstead.

Al will be interred to rest at the Princeton Cemetery on May 8, 2026 at 10am.
