Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Commack is gearing up for our Annual Thanksgiving Parade this Wednesday — and we’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help make the day unforgettable!

We’re inviting musicians, cheerleading teams, kicklines, and other performance or community groups to join us and earn community service hours while bringing joy to our residents.

A wonderful day yesterday with Pearl and Aiden, the adorable mini horses from HorseAbility. Our residents loved spending time with them and enjoying the pet therapy in our Memory Care Unit at Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Last night’s Annual Gurwin Celebration Gala at The Lannin in Eisenhower Park was nothing short of extraordinary.

This year, we were proud to honor Alan Pfeffer, QPA, AIF, and The Sentinel Benefits & Financial Group for their unwavering commitment and partnership.

We also celebrated our 2025 Joseph Gurwin Award recipients, Gail and Sandy Stoll — long-time supporters whose leadership, generosity and passion have lifted Gurwin’s mission for nearly three decades. Sandy’s dedicated service as a Board Member, coupled with their longtime philanthropy, truly embodies the spirit of this award.

Veterans Day Celebration!
We were honored to have two fabulous guests visit our Adult Day Care Social Program — James and Father James from St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Patchogue, who also serves as a U.S. Navy Chaplain.

They brought so much joy to our participants — singing, dancing and sharing heartfelt moments in honor of our veterans.

A huge thank you to Father James and James for spending this special day with us and helping us celebrate the courage and service of our veterans!

A Heartfelt Success Story from Our Vent Unit!

Our team had the incredible honor of celebrating the discharge of George S. from Gurwin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with a well-deserved clap out! 👏

After facing an incredibly challenging health journey, including multiple strokes and a difficult prognosis, George demonstrated unwavering strength and determination every step of the way. Through the support of his loving family and the dedication of our Vent Unit, PT, OT and Speech teams at Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, he made tremendous progress and is now moving forward to continue his recovery journey.

George’s story is a true testament to the power of perseverance, faith, family and compassionate care. We’re so proud of him and wish him and his family continued strength, healing and happiness ahead.

Please join us in congratulating George on this inspiring milestone!

Established in 1993, Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center’s Annual Photo Contest is an institution on Long Island, receiving between 700 and 1,000 entries from around the world each year.

💙✨ Light the World Teal Day at Adult Day Care Medical Program✨💙

Our amazing registrants came together to create a teal and white sand art vase — a beautiful symbol of unity, memory and hope. Each handful of sand represents a story, a strength, a moment of compassion.

As the layers of teal and white blended, they mirrored how our community stands together in the fight against Alzheimer’s. Together, we make a difference.

In recognition of , our participants and their families at the Gurwin Adult Day Care Social Program located at Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center came together for a meaningful event dedicated to raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease.

The day featured an inspiring guest speaker who shared valuable insights about recognizing the signs of Alzheimer’s and the many resources available for support. Participants also enjoyed a touching “Journey Through Memories” exhibit, reflecting on the beauty of shared moments and the strength of community.

Together, we honor those living with Alzheimer’s and their loved ones — and shine a light of hope, understanding, and compassion.

Today, we honor the incredible Genevieve Fedele, who recently turned 105 years old and showed us what a life filled with love, resilience and joy looks like.

Her favorite saying? “I’m not old, I’m just getting older!” This attitude inspires us every day.
