A lot has happened since I last posted on Facebook...COVID...but I am back on Facebook to introduce changes to the office. We changed our office hours to be more accessible. We added more caring staff, and we will be sharing healthy tips and our success stories of our patients.

In the month of September, we are offering free blood pressure checks and information regarding hypertension on every Tuesday and Wednesday during office hours starting on September 5th.

Tuesday hours are 1pm to 5pm
Wednesday hours are 9am to 1pm

Strength, will, belief and determination.

A friend of mine who is a picture of perfect health received the most devastating news one could ever imagine. She was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) last year. AML is a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Her family, friends and community were shaken by the news.

She underwent 5 bone marrow biopsies, 28 bags of chemotherapy, and countless hospitalizations due to complications from her weakened immune system from the chemotherapy.

Throughout her journey, her grace and smile radiated and never wavered.

AML was no match to her strength, will, belief and determination.

Amy won her fight this year, and she is an inspiration in her grace and resolve during the most challenging moment in one's life.

The Power of Giving.

A patient of mine learned of a person who he did not know needed a kidney transplant. He immediately volunteered and went through all the testing to see if he would be a good candidate to donate his kidney.

He wanted to not only help, but make a difference in someone's life in great need with no fanfare.

I wanted to share his touching story of generosity.

Success story.

I have a patient who I started seeing in January of this year. He was newly diagnosed with diabetes with HgbA1C of 12. (Normal HgbA1C in a non-diabetic is 6 and below.)

He was motivated and wanted to make a change. I started him on oral medications as opposed to starting him on insulin which I would normally do in a patient with this high of a HgbA1C.

He followed the diet changes I recommended, and he lost 20 pounds in 3 months.

His HgbA1C was rechecked, and it was 5.0!

Yes 5.0! He is no longer considered a diabetic. AWESOME!

Healthy tip: What happens in 1 hour after you drink a diet soda beverage?

First 10 min: teeth enamel is attacked.
20 min: Insulin production is heavily increased leading to high fat storage.
40 min: caffeine and aspartame work on the neuroreceptors to promote addiction for more soda.
60 min: Hungry and craving more sugar.

Have a great weekend. Stay away from diet soda and regular calorie soda for long healthy living.
