PCOS is not one size fits all—science just proved it

Researchers analyzed nearly 12,000 women with PCOS and identified four distinct subtypes, each with unique risks and outcomes, validated across global cohorts.
• Hyperandrogenic PCOS: High male hormones raise miscarriage and cholesterol risks.
• Obesity PCOS: Worst metabolic issues (diabetes, hypertension) but highest remission rate.
• High SHBG PCOS: Mildest form—best fertility, lowest diabetes/hypertension odds.
• High LH-AMH PCOS: IVF hyperstimulation risk, lowest remission.
This means personalized care: tailored treatments, fertility plans, and monitoring based on your subtype. No more generic advice.

Postmenopausal women who followed healthier eating patterns like the Mediterranean (aMed) or DASH diets had up to 8% lower odds of developing insomnia over 3 years, according to a large Women’s Health Initiative study of over 50,000 women. Among those without insomnia at the start, good diet quality cut new insomnia risk by 7-9% compared to poorer diets.

These patterns—packed with fruits, veggies, whole grains, fish, and healthy fats—seem to support better sleep long-term, beyond just demographics or lifestyle factors.

Your fork is a sleep aid. Swap processed foods for colorful plates and watch those restless nights fade. Clinical trials next to confirm—but why wait

New research from ObesityWeek shows women who used GLP-1 medications (like semaglutide or tirzepatide) before pregnancy saw real metabolic wins: better weight control, improved fertility signals (especially for PCOS), and lower risks of issues like gestational diabetes or hypertension down the line. Losing 15-20% body weight preconception can regulate cycles, balance hormones, and set a healthier stage for you and baby.
But stopping right before pregnancy? It came with a rebound: more gestational weight gain (up to 7 pounds extra), higher odds of preterm birth, and pregnancy diabetes in some cases. The fix? Plan ahead with your doctor—time the taper, add nutrition coaching, and keep those preconception perks without the pitfalls.
Fertility boost or family planning? Talk GLP-1 strategy now. Your future pregnancy thanks you

A new study looked at whether something as simple as chewing gum could help lower anxiety and pain during labor. Researchers found that people who chewed sugar-free gum at certain points in labor reported less anxiety and lower pain scores compared with those who did not chew gum. The idea is that the act of chewing may distract the brain, support relaxation, and even trigger calming pathways in the body.
This is not a replacement for epidurals, nitrous, or other medical options—but it is a low-cost, low-risk tool that can be added to a comfort plan.

If you are planning a birth, consider asking your care team what non-drug comfort measures your hospital supports—chewing gum might soon join the list alongside movement, breathing, and hydrotherapy

PCOS isn’t a willpower problem. It is a biology problem.

New data on the medication tirzepatide is giving many women with PCOS something rare in this space: real, measurable hope. In a large group of women with PCOS and higher weight, tirzepatide was linked to significant weight loss over about 10 months, often far beyond the 5% weight loss usually recommended to improve symptoms like irregular cycles, insulin resistance, and excess hair growth.

Many women lost well over 10–15% of their body weight, which can be a game-changer for hormones, energy, and long term health. But here is the twist: women who stayed engaged with a digital program—coaching, education, tracking—did even better than those who just took the medication alone. Behavior support plus medication beat medication solo.

PCOS care is moving beyond “just lose weight” to “let’s give you tools that actually work, together.

New research suggests the Mediterranean diet might be a powerful first-line option for people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Instead of starting with super-restrictive plans, researchers found that a Mediterranean-style way of eating—think olive oil, fruits, veggies, whole grains, fish, nuts, and legumes—can ease IBS symptoms like pain, bloating, and unpredictable bathroom trips.

In some studies, it performed as well as or better than traditional IBS diet advice, with the bonus of being easier to stick with long-term. For busy adults juggling work, family, and real life, that matters.

If you struggle with IBS, talk with your clinician or dietitian about whether a Mediterranean-style approach could be your starting point. Your gut and your heart may both benefit.

Big news for anyone navigating menopause: hormone therapy just got easier to talk about and access!

Those scary “black box” warnings on certain estrogen products are being removed—meaning fewer barriers for people needing relief from menopausal symptoms.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) applauds this move! It facilitates prescriptions of low-dose vaginal estrogen, proven safe and effective for symptoms like dryness or urinary discomfort. Now, decision-making shifts back to you and your healthcare provider—so treatment can be tailored to your unique needs and risks.

Not all estrogen therapies are created equal, and ACOG still recommends talking with your doctor about options—and to avoid compounded products that aren’t FDA-approved.
Menopause shouldn’t mean suffering in silence. Ask about your choices!

More women are being told to take low dose aspirin in pregnancy to protect against high blood pressure disorders like preeclampsia, which can be dangerous for both parent and baby. These tiny doses (often called “baby aspirin”) may help lower the risk of complications in people who are higher risk, but aspirin in pregnancy is not one size fits all.

Here is the important part: more women are hearing “take aspirin” without always hearing the “why you, when, and how long.” That can leave pregnant patients confused, worried about safety, or tempted to self start without guidance.

If you are pregnant or trying to conceive, do not start or stop aspirin on your own.
• Ask: “Am I high risk for preeclampsia?”
• Get clear instructions on dose and timing.
Your pregnancy deserves personalized advice, not TikTok medicine. Bring your questions to your next visit—we are here for that.

At our office, we talk a lot about prevention, and a powerful new review on HPV vaccination gives even more reason to start early!

The review pulls together data from many high quality studies and shows that HPV vaccines strongly reduce the risk of high grade cervical pre-cancer and warts, especially when given in the teen and young adult years. The studies were not long enough yet to measure actual cervical cancer cases, but all signs point in the same direction: vaccinating before exposure to HPV is a major step toward preventing cancer later.

Safety matters too. Across large trials, no serious safety concerns stood out; side effects were mostly mild things like a sore arm or short lived discomfort.

If you or your teen are due for HPV vaccination, consider this your friendly nudge from your care team
