From the family of the late Brian Cadenhead, who was a beloved counselor at William W. Read Memorial Treatment Center:

To those walking the path of recovery:

The holidays can be one of the hardest seasons to stay strong. Old feelings rise. Old habits whisper. Loneliness can feel louder. But your recovery matters — and so do you.

Brian was a peer specialist counselor who believed in you, even if he never met you personally. He believed in the power of meetings, honesty, accountability, and showing up — even on the days when it felt impossible.

He understood relapse does not erase worth. Struggle does not cancel progress. And weakness is not failure — it is a sign that you are human.

If you are tired, rest — but don’t quit.
If you feel alone, reach out — but don’t hide.
If the days feel heavy, take them one hour at a time.

Brian lived committed to sobriety and to helping others stay free. Today, his legacy lives through every person who chooses recovery again, and again, and again.

You are not weak. You are brave.
You are still here — and that matters.
